Job description

Make a difference with us

If you are looking for somewhere you can make a real difference and are passionate about keeping people safe, well and out of hospital, a career with us may be just what you’re looking for. At Solent NHS Trust, we strive to make a difference to the health and wellbeing of our communities.

We are proud to be an organisation which is focused on our people and we welcome people who share our values to come and work with us.

  • To deliver great care that is safe, simple and easy to access
  • To be a caring, flexible and supportive place to work
  • To deliver the best value for money

We are looking to recruit an Apprentice Workflow Administrator for our busy GP Surgery in Southampton which can be a great start to a rewarding career within the NHS. This is a full time position based at The Royal South Hants Hospital in Southampton where we are a busy GP surgery with 19,000 patients across 3 sites in Southampton.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and hardworking apprentice to join our small but dedicated and supportive workflow team who provide an efficient and friendly service for all our patients and effective administrative support to our clinical staff.

The role requires a high level of inter-personal skills and personal confidence. A respectful and empathetic attitude will be essential along with the capacity to manage sensitive and confidential information. We are looking for somebody who has a ‘can-do’ attitude.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be able to use their own initiative
  • Have a meticulous eye for details, an enquiring mind and a willingness to learn
  • Have strong communication skills
  • Be organised, able to multi-task and work under pressure
  • Have proven skills in Microsoft applications, Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • At commencement of the apprenticeship you will be required to have Maths and English GCSE Grade C/Level 4 or above or Functional Skills for both at level 2.

In return we offer a full and comprehensive induction to the Trust and Surgery with regular support and supervision.

A criterion of the apprenticeship is that you attend college/virtually and complete all the necessary standards set out in the Apprenticeship. The apprenticeship is for 22 months and upon completion you will be awarded a Level 3 Business and Admin Apprenticeship. You will be employed on a fixed term contract for the duration of your apprenticeship.

The aim of this role is to streamline the flow of clinical correspondence through the organisation, by reducing the number of letters that GP’s need to process. This should ensure that GPs are able to give priority to the most appropriate correspondence.

The post holder will identify and read code any key clinical data from correspondence, such as new diagnoses, diagnostic test results, significant health information and/or episodes and health promotion information e.g. BP recordings, height, weight, smoking status etc.

Personal Skills/Qualities
