What are you going to do:

About CocoRio

CocoRio is a Creative Child Care agency employing freelance creative professionals with experience working with children to provide a smarter child care service combining creative education with child care. Many of our sitters are also multilingual and can teach the different languages they speak through creative play. We cater to children aged 0-15 years old as well as children with SEND.

About the Role

Our creative sitters are responsible for all child care duties as well as creative/language activities for the children they care for. The child care side of the job includes mealtimes, routines, helping with homework, picking children up from school and most importantly keeping children safe at all times. The activity side includes delivering creative and language learning activities previously planned according to the child’s age and abilities, including adapting to the child’s response, making sure to fulfil the family’s requests that have been previously agreed.

Families may have different reasons for booking a creative sitter, including respite care, interest in fostering the development of a specific skill/language, or entertainment. In all these scenarios, safety and wellbeing of children are always our sitters’ top priorities.

Our sitters are responsible for liaising with the family at the beginning of the session, asking questions about the family’s requirements and routines, as well as at the end to obtain feedback.

The first few hours with a new family/child are focussed on getting to know each other, and on encouraging the creation of a relationship of trust between the sitter and the child and the sitter and the family. Indeed we believe that a trusting relationship is the base for any interaction with children in a child care role.

Our sitters hold zero hour freelance contracts with the CocoRio agency. Most of our roles are ad hoc, encouraging flexible hours working around your availability. We also have some roles requiring regular commitment.

Our sitters can be put forward to lead entertainment sessions at children’s birthday parties and events if this is appealing to them and they have experience working in group settings.

CocoRio hosts regular training sessions and provides support to sitters who would like to discuss activity ideas, challenging situations on the job and more.

Our hourly rate for sitters is £12 - £20 per hour, depending on the nature of the job - normally £15. Our sitters must be willing to register as Self Employed and will be responsible for paying their own taxes.

CocoRio doesn’t pay any travel expenses. We will try to match you with families local to you but depending on where you live, this may not be possible and you should be willing to travel to families who are up to 1 hour away.

CocoRio’s Values

  • Trustworthy - We take working with children very seriously and their safety is paramount. For this reason, all our sitters go through a three stage vetting process and undergo regular training to ensure we only send you the very best.
  • Friendly - Our sitters and staff are very friendly and offer a personalised and unique experience!
  • Approachable - It is easy to book a CocoRio sitter and we will try to accommodate all your requests as best as possible. Come to us whatever your child care and creative/language learning activity needs, we’re here for YOU!
  • Sustainable - Creativity doesn’t need expensive tools. We encourage our sitters to  explore the recycling bin, the pantry and the park before thinking about purchasing new materials. We LOVE upcycling! We also enjoy following the change of seasons by engaging with natural elements - from flowers to sand to snow!
  • Diverse - Our sitters come from all over the world and have different creative expertises, child care experience, backgrounds and speak different languages. And we value each of their UNIQUE stories. The diversity in our books allows us to make the perfect family-sitter match, but if you aren’t 100% happy, we’ll send you someone else!
