Staff Nurse - Developmental - COVID-19 in Leeds

Job description

We are delighted to announce that we have been rated as a “Good” organisation by CQC and our Adults Services were rated ‘Outstanding’ for caring.

Are you interested in developing your skills?

Calling all nurses and paramedics to be part of a forward-thinking MDT who strive to improve the lives of some of the most vulnerable children in society. You can be part of making a difference.

We are in an exciting and forward thinking integrated team working at HM Wetherby Young Offenders Institution and Adel Beck Secure Children’s Home in partnership with Her Majesty’s Prison and Probation Services, Leeds City Council and South West Yorkshire Partnership Foundation Trust. You will work alongside the pharmacy, CAMHS, substance misuse, health promotion and administration teams, which affords us the benefit of being able to work in a truly holistic manner.

We provide a 24/7 Healthcare Service to children aged 10-18 years across two sites working with children from both the custodial and welfare system. The children can be on trial, sentenced, sometimes for life and for some it is the first time in a secure setting. Our job is not to judge, our job is to provide exceptional care with kindness and compassion.

The healthcare provision provides a full service to the children from assessment, intervention, and discharge planning. They manage the generic health and well-being needs of children, respond to acute care needs, and manage presenting risk. No two days are the same – you will facilitate specialised clinics, administer medication, immunisations and vaccinations, triage and treat minor illness / injuries, attend emergency situations, and deliver age-appropriate health promotion sessions to this complex, yet rewarding client group. This supports the children to live healthier lifestyles and improve their quality of life, at a very important stage of their childhood.

This will enable you to get a variety of experience and enhance your skill set, in a rewarding Clinical setting. You will have the opportunity to work alongside a variety of healthcare professionals which will enable you to develop your knowledge and skill set. This will be supported by a comprehensive and supportive, individualised induction package, that will support your development needs.

This post will provide you with an opportunity to work across a variety of areas within two different secure environments using existing skills and developing new ones. You will be involved in seeing all young people that are new into the secure setting. Skills will involve assessment, reassessment, risk assessment and management of a variety of health needs.

We’re currently looking for all branches of Nurses and paramedics, with different levels of experience to complement our award winning Primary Healthcare Team, delivering physical healthcare to very vulnerable and highly complex young people.

HMP WYOI and Adel Beck Secure Children’s Home both have excellent onsite facilities, with free parking, staff gyms and a coffee shop. They are both easily assessable from major roads, they make a wonderful, central base for days out to the Yorkshire Dales, the North Yorkshire Moors, and the East Coast.

We are keen to support flexible working arrangements that suit you and the service. Experience of working within a secure environment is desirable, it is strongly recommended that interested candidates contact Sarah Hemsley (Primary Care Manager) 01937 544424 to discuss and arrange an informal visit.
