Main Purpose of Role You will be responsible for authoring, reviewing and substantiating Marine and Structural designs through calculations, simulations, commissioning and diagnostic test support. You will contribute and lead product development throughout the design lifecycle and provide technical support to our key customers, ensuring efficient and effective delivery of engineering outputs, act as Technical Authority and have deep subject knowledge of an aspect of Marine/Structural engineering. Technical responsibility for the delivery of engineering outputs, often with associated leadership responsibilities. The role requires demonstrable experience in the development of Marine and Structural engineering systems on marine platforms, demonstrable experience of using analytical engineering software such as finite element analysis, 2D and 3D CAD packages, as well as experience of contributing/leading Design Reviews, experience of working with Production Teams with good written and verbal communication skills. Leadership experience would be advantageous. Key Outputs Primary deliverables are authoring and reviewing substantiation reports/designs for installation solutions. Leading on the production of substantiation reports for design solutions throughout the entire design lifecycle phases (Concept, Basic, Functional, Detail, Manufacturing, Installation and Decommissioning), in line with recognised standards and to the required time, cost and quality requirements. Lead design teams and other stakeholders throughout the design lifecycle to ensure coordination and functionality of design, including supporting design reviews, and act as Technical Authority within your area of expertise. Develop innovative design solutions with robust engineering substantiation. Provide solutions to manufacturing and installation issues by assisting in the resolution of technical and production queries. Produce, approve and authorise technical reports and other documentation. Be aware of and ensure that, health, safety and environmental requirements are implemented. Assist with the maintenance and improvement in quantity standards of outputs. Provide mentoring support to less experienced team members to support both their effective working, and their professional development. Required Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Competences Design, development, and determines solutions to problems and issues within the specialist subject area. Provide technical leadership to product development, support professional development/ mentoring to less experienced team members and supports governance reviews of developed solutions. Although not essential, defence related design experience and demonstrable experience in appropriate analytical software, experience of ship building, operation and/or maintenance and leadership in an engineering environment would be an advantage. Qualifications Ideally degree qualified but HND/HNC level qualification in an engineering discipline with extensive experience in relevant field will be considered; Be a member of a relevant institution (e.g. RINA, IET, IMechE, IMarEst etc.) and hold Chartered status To apply for this position, you must be eligible to live and work in the UK and either possess or be able to obtain UK MOD Security Clearance to SC Level.
