February 2023 PurposeTo provide an occupational therapy service by assessing, implementing and evaluating programmes and goal setting of person-centred care as part of the multi-disciplinary team. To provide leadership, supervision and education as appropriate for more junior members of the team.
Key Relationships
This role carries no line management responsibilities, but the post holder will have a responsibility to mentor and supervise more junior members of the team
The post holder will be expected to work effectively with the Therapy team, the nursing teams and the wider Multi-Disciplinary Team
Responsible for working alongside and/or supporting volunteers, assistants, and students within their team
Qualifications required
Diploma/BSC in Occupational Therapy
Current and valid Registration with Health & Care Professions Council
Relevant post graduate training in appropriate speciality
Evidence of Continued Professional Development
Experience, Skills and Ability
Experience of working in a relevant setting
Demonstrable experience of using evidence based practice and outcome measures
Skilled knowledge and application of therapy assessments and interventions using complex level clinical reasoning
An ability to work autonomously and to set own and others priorities
An ability to confidently assess and manage risk in relation to occupational performance
An ability to organise, coordinate and respond efficiently to complex information
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to build effective working relationships
Competent IT skills
Knowledge of relevant legislation and its impact on current practice
Leadership skills with the ability to motivate staff and help achieve goals
Complexity and Accountability
This post holds no budgetary responsibility but will be expected to help control and minimise expenditure and costs where appropriate
Accountable to ensure a duty of candour is followed in giving information to service users and/or their representative
To assume clinical responsibility for the management of a specific caseload. To ensure that clinical practice is evidence based. Allocating work to colleagues as set out in team standards
To recommend changes/improvements to the service as required. Responsible for ensuring the successful implementation of service policies, new evidence based techniques and activities and any service development changes.
To apply skilled knowledge and research to initiate innovative clinical projects that counter occupational risk factors and maintain function and quality of life
To use skilled knowledge and research to support and direct colleagues
Working autonomously but in compliance with the relevant professional bodies code of ethics and professional conduct, national legal frameworks and Brainkind Quality Governance policy and procedures
Key Responsibilities
To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work including the management of service users in their care. To ensure high standards of clinical care for the service users under their management and support others to do likewise
To undertake comprehensive assessment of service users, using investigative and analytical skills to formulate individualised rehabilitation and treatment plans
To promote choice in all aspects of clinical practice reviewing and making suggestions to enhance the service users experience and enabling concerns and complaints to be raised freely by service users and their representatives
To liaise and communicate with other health and social care professionals and volunteers in the planning and delivery of occupational therapy
To ensure appropriate provision and maintenance of equipment within available resources
