Five Education has a new vacancy in a Special Education Needs (SEN) school in South Somerset. The school requires a learning mentor to provide one-to-one support to children who have a variety of special education needs.

The person chosen will be likely to be working with children with autism. The role involves working alongside teachers and other staff, helping with the day-to-day activities. As a Learning Mentor, you will be expected to follow the instructions of the class teacher. This will include but is not limited to, clarifying instructions to the pupils and ensuring they can concentrate on the task set.

The learning mentor is an integral part of the staff team that ensures that the children can access the curriculum. The successful candidate will need to have an ability to work on their own initiative, hold excellent communication skills and be eager to learn about SEN. They will be willing to positively contribute to the well-being and happiness of all the children at the school.

The school is ideally situated near a train station. The person chosen will join a committed staff team. The hours will be 8:30-15:30 and we are looking for someone to work 3 days a week.

The pay rate is £12.23 an hour, this rate includes holiday pay. The day is 7 hours with a 30 minute unpaid lunch break. Your daily rate of pay would be £79.50 but with the potential to earn more.

Responsibilities and duties: -Working with class teachers to deliver excellent learning activities and pastoral support. -Working with a child individually on a 1:1 basis. -Supporting assessment and evidencing learning. -Building relationships with the pupils. -Maintaining a safe and positive environment. -Creating opportunities for all learners to reach their potential, irrespective of ability. -Meeting the pupils' individual needs and ensuring tasks are differentiated towards them.

Essential Criteria · Some experience of working with children or vulnerable adults · 2 years' worth of references, 1 has to be working with children or vulnerable adults (needs to be recent and this could be paid or volunteer work) · A relevant DBS/Police check · Able to work between and a minimum of 2 days a week
