Work as a Quantity Surveyor - Civil & Construction in London
x2 Quantity Surveyor – Civil & Construction, Exeter centric, UK. Salary to £70,000 p.a. + car allowance + discretionary bonus
This is an exciting opportunity with the growing utilities division of a vertically integrated renewable anergy firm.
The QS will manage the costs on a construction project, prepare tender documents, contracts, budgets and other documents which may be required.
The role reports to Head of Construction.
Main responsibilities
Takes the lead and owns the change process
Maintains effective change control procedures with supply chain, i.e., managing Risk/Early Warning Registers
Proactively reacts to notifications of works variations (cost and time), works with contractors to reduce project risk to minimise cost
Procurement – prepare enquiry documents, conduct work scope reviews, with particular emphasis on the identification of areas of design and time criticality T&C's review, strong contract negotiation, select best value contractors and draft final order documentation
Manage contractor accounts; assess and administer payments in a timely manner and formulate payment notifications and notices
Challenge and act on areas subject to disallowed costs
Reporting activities and maintaining internal cost plans Earned Value recognition
Provide site management with commercial support and advice
Promote and maintain professional working relationships
Make sure projects meet requirements ref Budgets
Review budgets and cost to complete projections
Provide reports on P&L to accounts team and head of construction and control and implement variation costs.
Supports the responses to requests for proposals and support the Tendering and Procurement process to successfully negotiate new projects.
Generate internal reports and conferences for updates relating to project updates, personnel, budget review and schedules.
Follows safety and security procedures and determines appropriate action. Reports potentially unsafe conditions and uses materials and equipment properly.
Improve and document processes and procedures & post project review.
Support the construction delivery team in costings and variations.
Attend site on a regular basis.
Post Project Analysis, produce a monthly project analysis and variations report.
Budget and/or profit margins on utility scale projects.
Approval limits for subcontracts and purchase orders on projects.
Schedule and project completion programmes on time per budget.

Essential Criteria
5 years + experience in a similar role or a degree.
Ability to demonstrate significant experience in using various contract forms
Self-motivated with an ability to work autonomously

Desirable criteria
Experience of working on contracts £10m plus for principal contractor
Experience of heavy Civils/Renewable Energy works in a main/principal contractor setting
Good IT knowledge (Microsoft Excel, word, Smartsheet)
Remuneration
Salary range £65,000 - £70,000 p.a.+ car allowance + discretionary bonus
