We are currently seeking an experienced Operational Accounting Manager to join our Financial Control Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of operational accounting within the business, such as Income & Expenditure processes
for the parent entity, as well as accounting for subsidiaries in accordance with relevant accounting standards. They will be required to manage the operation of robust internal controls, while continually striving to identify improvements to maximise team
efficiency. As a housing association, bpha’s development activities also attract a range of different VAT treatments and so the role holder will need to have a sound understanding of VAT, as well as an awareness of other areas of tax compliance.
Please see the role profile attached for full details, but a summary of what you will be doing is as follows:
Manage the Operational Accounting function, responsible for executing an accurate and efficient month end process for all group entities, ensuring all deadlines are met.
Overseeing a team of Assistant Accountants and coordinating their activities, while working closely alongside the wider Financial Control Team.
Responsible for timely and accurate reporting of all routine tax matters, including partial exemption VAT, Corporation Tax, CIS, SDLT, ATED, employment and any other relevant taxes.
Manage the provision of information for the annual external audit process to ensure all deadlines are met.
Manage the operation of robust internal controls, identifying and implementing opportunities for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of processes, whilst ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and technical accounting standards.
We’d love to meet someone who has:
CCAB Qualified accountant or finalist
Demonstrable experience of successfully leading a similar team
Proactive, with the ability to drive change and continuously improve systems, processes and functions
Effective time management and prioritisation of conflicting workloads
High degree of technical competence in current accounting standards and practices
Sound understanding of main tax areas
