COUNSELLORS / MONITORS SUMMER CAMPS 2016

Job description

OUR SUMMER CAMPS

The summer programs for Kids are immersion courses that take place in several locations in Spain where Spanish children enjoy a full week of activities in English. During this week they take part in different games, group activities, organise a fair, enjoy time at the swimming pool or participate in scavenger hunts but don´t forget this, no Spanish is allowed!!

During this week they are accompanied by Counsellors managing each of them a group of 8 to 10 children, the program is directed by the Program Director and the Master of Ceremonies, who are present for the whole duration of it and who will be in charge of making sure that the program is following the structure it is supposed to as well as organising activities, and providing support to the Counsellors.

The programs for Teens are like the ones for kids with the exception that for these programs we count with native English speaking teen volunteers who are grouped along the Spanish teens and take part in the activities, being their only task to speak English and make Spanish teens speak in English as much as possible. This program involves not only being in charge of your group of teens during the camp, but also being responsible of airport pick ups the day before the program, drop offs the day after the program as well as chaperoning during the time they spend in Madrid before and after the program.

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

· Age: must be at least 22 years old.

· Languages: Must be a native English speaker

· Work permit: EU passport or Spanish identity number NIE (resident card) if living in Madrid

· Experience: Previous camp experience, 1 to 2 years working with kids and/or Teens. Teaching experience is an advantage and required for some of the residential camps.

· Skills / Personal Attributes: You need to be someone with enthusiasm, energy and have an open mind with an outgoing personality. You don’t have to be a trained expert, you just need to love working with kids/teens and have lots of imagination.
Skills or interests in activities such as arts & crafts, sport, theatre, dance and music are a must. First aid experience/certification is highly valued, but not essential.

· Non-smokers preferred. It is expressly forbidden to smoke when in the presence of children (as stated by new Spanish Law of 2011).


SPECIFIC INFO FOR SUMMER CAMPS

· Location: Our summer camps take place at a number of rural resorts located all over Spain (all with an assortment of sports and leisure facilities):

· Ages: Kids - 7 to 12 [30-70 Spanish participants] 

 - Ages: Teens - 13 to 17 [40-90 Spanish participants and English native volunteers*)
Schedule: Full time, 24/7 job. (See sample schedule) 

Dates

OPTION 1

Week 1: Training on the 22nd, pickups and logistics on the 23rd, camp from the 24th of June to the 1st of July , drop offs and logistics on the 2nd.
Week 2: Training on the 29th of June, pickups and logistics on the 30th , camp from the 1st of July to the 8th of July , drop offs and logistics on the 9th.
Week 3: Training on the 6th of July, pickups and logistics on the 7th, camp from the 8th of July to the 15th of July, drop offs and logistics on the 16th.
Week 4: Training on the 13th of July, pickups and logistics on the 14th, camp from the 15th of July to the 22nd of July, drop offs and logistics on the 23rd.
Week 5: Training on the 20th of July, pickups and logistics on the 21st , camp from the 22nd of July to the 29th of July, drop offs and logistics on the 30th.

OPTION 2

Week 1 and week 2: Training on the 1st of July, pickups and logistics on the 2nd , camp from the 3rd of July to the 16th of July , drop offs and logistics on the 17th.
Week 3 and week 4: Training on the 15th of July, pickups and logistics on the 16th , camp from the 17th of July to the 30th of July, drop offs and logistics on the 31st.

Recruitment process: Interviews ( if you don’t live in Spain, the’ll be done via Skype) will start in around April.

Counsellors will need to work a minimum of a fortnight.


*Pick-ups / Drop-Offs and chaperoning of the English native volunteers in Madrid


The day before the start of the program you and the other counsellors will be in charge of airport picks-ups of the English –speaking volunteers coming to join the Spaniards for the program; we will greet them at the group hotel, take them out to lunch and a tour of Madrid and then organize a welcome reception as well as a dinner. After the program you will have to drop off the participants at the airport or chaperone them in the Madrid hotel until they are picked up by their parents that day or the next. We organize counsellors in different shifts and assign the responsibilities during Training Day. You must be fully available both days and flexible to changes in duties and shifts.


WHAT WE OFFER 

Contract: We offer a contract to EU workers for the duration of the program, starting your duties and responsibilities, from the day before the program until the day after. You must have a Spanish Social Security number. If you are not currently living in Spain (EU passport must be provided), we will obtain it for you in advance. If you have been working in Spain for more than 3 months, you are also required to have valid identity number (NIE). You will be asked to send all documents scanned when receiving the job offer. 

Training: You have to be in Madrid for Training and Contract signing (according to the above dates). We provide accommodation for the airport pick-up night (if you do not reside in Madrid), but the Training night will be at your own expense. We will send you all the necessary information ahead of time so you can prepare: confirmed schedule, activity pack, responsibilities. Furthermore, you must be available for the training session before your program begins. We will go through the rules and responsibilities, the day to day logistics, activity and workshop preparation, how to deal with the children, your relationship with the on-site staff and your superiors, how to deal with difficult situations and make sure you work as a team! During the training you will be assigned airport picks-ups/drop-offs for the Thursday before the program and shifts to chaperone the Anglo volunteers in lunch, tour and/or dinner.   

Salary will be 1035 euros (food and accomodation provided during the camps as well as on the pick up night and the day counselors are back in Madrid from the venue)

• We pay the following expenses for the duration of the program: Transport from Madrid to venues, full room and board (breakfast, lunch and dinner) in shared room with another counsellors, plus accident and medical insurance. The camp will provide all the material necessary for the activities, and a t-shirt for each week you work to be worn for airport pick ups and drop offs.
