Summer School Activity Leader or English Teacher

CERAN SA, a language school based in Belgium, is recruiting students for the posts of ACTIVITY LEADER and ENGLISH TEACHER in our Juniors summer school. Our young learners, aged from 9 to 17, come from a wide variety of countries, and will all be learning English.

Job description

Teachers will plan and give lessons in English as a Foreign Language. These will include oral and written expression, listening and reading comprehension, and workshops. You will teach small groups and possibly also have some one-to-one lessons.

We use a communicative method and the immersion technique, using discussions, roleplay, 'real life' situations and current news/media in the classroom. All new teachers will be trained in the CERAN method.

As an Activity Leader, you will organise and run activities such as sport, performing arts, arts and crafts, well-being (yoga, aerobics, etc), depending on your skills.

On Wednesday afternoons and all day at the weekends, you will accompany students on excursions, or be on duty at the centre for departures and arrivals.

Both teachers and activity leaders encourage the use of English throughout the day, eating meals with the students and being present at break times when on duty.

Profile

Applicants should be in at least the second year of a degree course.

Teachers should be following a course oriented towards modern languages or education, and have experience of teaching or of leading groups.

Activity Leaders should be skilled in, and be able to teach or coach, at least one area of sports, arts and crafts, performing arts or well-being, and have experience of leading or coaching groups.

To work in the English Department, candidates must have English as their mother tongue, or be perfectly bilingual with a native speaker competency in both spoken and written English. Native speakers of Dutch, German or French are welcome to apply to the appropriate department.

You must be able to work in the EU, and have, or be prepared to apply for, an Enhanced DBS check.

Pay and Conditions

The gross salary per calendar month for both posts starts at Euros 1303.85 for a 30 hour week, rising to E1651.54 for a 38 hour week.

Benefits include paid on-site training, shared accommodation at the centre, all meals whether on or off duty, and travel expenses of up to E 375.

Courses run from late June to late August. You do not need to be available for the whole period, but please note that we have considerably fewer students, and therefore considerably fewer jobs, in August.

Contracts of up to nine weeks plus training are available, with a maximum of 50 days' work in a calendar year for a student contract with favourable tax treatment.

You will have a minimum of one day off per week.

Interviews will be held in Belgium and the UK. Please apply as soon as possible, to ensure your choice of place and date.
