The GTI Scheme is a unique new way to access teaching. This salaried scheme provides you with a genuine school experience, enabling you to make an informed decision about teaching as a career whilst also providing you with transferable employability skills valued in all professions. The GTI Scheme enables and supports graduates to find and secure employment in schools.
This national scheme provides graduates with the opportunity to work in schools in a salaried post and gain the necessary experience and skills needed to unlock an incredible career. Becoming a GTI allows graduates experience the career of teaching without having to make the full financial and personal commitment usually required. By working alongside teaching staff in schools, graduates are systematically introduced to the career of teaching while providing valuable support to those pupils who need it most. GTIs are then supported in making an informed decision, based on a genuine experience of working in schools, about whether a career in teaching is for them.
The work of a GTI is challenging and rewarding and can encompass a wide range of teaching and support roles in the school. Roles may include literacy and numeracy coaching, 1 to 1 and small group work, test and exam prep, co-teaching with the class teacher, subject-specific mentoring for KS4 and KS5 pupils, working with disadvantaged pupils and extra curricular support. Every GTI will be provided with a personalised, employment based development pathway, supported by a school based GTI Mentor. The pathway will reflect the GTI's starting knowledge, experience and skills and individual development needs and will include induction, a broad school experience, progress monitoring, the opportunity to develop transferable employment skills and career coaching.
Person Requirements
Having tried teaching, many GTIs will positively choose to continue teaching and go on to enjoy an incredible career in schools. In many cases, GTIs will be able to seamlessly transition to formal Initial Teacher Training in the school. The GTI Scheme will also support those GTIs who seek to pursue alternative careers in other sectors. Many schools need additional support for pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds. GTIs can make a significant impact on the rate of progress of those pupils who often can benefit from 1 to 1 and small group support.
Your graduate level skills and abilities are badly needed in schools and you can make a valuable contribution in as little as one term!
