Social Media Intern in London

YMI needs an enthusiastic and eager to learn intern! We are raising our profile on social media and are looking for a passionate individual to help spread our message while gaining invaluable experience in a busy and growing charity.

You Make It runs a 6 month long empowerment programme for young unemployed and underemployed women. Over the course of the programme, they are equipped with the confidence, professional networks, experiences, skills and attitude needed to achieve financial independence and greater integration in our ever exciting capital.

Year after year our high quality and creative programme of work has proven to have real social impact and has changed the life chances of every young woman who has engaged with it.

We are looking for a strongly organised individual with good administration skills. The role is suitable for someone with a hard working attitude looking to gain experience working in a busy team, who is able to assist with the administrative tasks of a small charity.

Person Specification

  • You are expected to have experience with social media on (at least) a personal level (use on a business level preferred).
  • You must be able to think strategically and see how social media fits into an outreach and network building strategy.
  • You must be able to assist in formulating social media plans (once ample information is provided to you), and then carry them out.
  • You must be able to measure and document the impact of social media, and then suggest action-steps to increase impact.
  • You must be eligible to work in the UK.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Social Media:

  • Maintaining our social media presence across all platforms under the guidance of the Programme Coordinator
  • Uploading videos, photo albums, etc.
  • Finding users to follow/friend/like YMI
  • Identifying the tone and style of our social media presence on different platforms
  • Writing and scheduling posts/tweets/updates on a weekly basis
  • Tracking the growth and the impact of social media on YMI's reach
  • Replying to comments, messages, etc.
  • Responding to YMI's communication strategy and direction from the Programme Coordinator
  • Report findings to the team

Admin

  • Assisting the team with electronic and hard copy filing
  • Inputting participant data
  • Receiving and filing records of expenditure for the Programme Coordinator
  • Any other ad hoc administrative tasks from Programme Manager

Skills and Attributes

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, strong editing skills
  • Creative with an eye for design
  • Knowledge of social media – Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, blogs, etc.
  • Willingness to suggest fun social media ideas on different platforms
  • Experience proofreading and editing
  • Hardworking attitude
  • Ability to contribute individually, and participate in cross functional teams
  • Consistently learn and grow, ask pertinent questions

This is a 3 month internship, 1.5 days per week, based at our office in Haggerston in the heart of one of London's most diverse communities. We will pay London Living Wage.
