Project Leader Role Description:

  • Work closely and communicate regularly with the Programme Manager
  • Plan and deliver a 2 hour mentoring session each week during term time for 10-16 young people and their mentors
  • Manage and support the young people
  • Manage and support the volunteer mentors
  • Organise and attend team building / social activities
  • Liaise with school contacts
  • Complete monitoring and evaluation activities to evaluate project success

What we offer:

As a member of the programme you will benefit from:

  • Project Leaders will be paid up to 4 hours per session for time spent planning and delivering their project. The hourly rate is £11.00.
  • A training programme designed to help you develop and grow your leadership and management skills, including a weekend residential and follow up evening sessions
  • Additional optional modules such as public speaking, child psychology and building your personal brand, delivered in partnership with our corporate supporters and other third sector organisations
  • Paid weekly placement as a Project Leader on a primary or secondary school project (for more information about ReachOut’s mentoring projects click here)
  • A personal mentor to support you throughout your placement
  • ReachOut’s alumni community, with access to networking events and career development opportunities

What we ask:

  • Grade C (or equivalent) in GCSE Maths & English
  • Has worked with groups of young people in the range 9 to 16 years old
  • Experience:

  • Has taken on a leadership role in some capacity
  • Has planned social events / activities for others to attend
  • Can demonstrate commitment to a cause / activity and has taken an active role in that (e.g. captain of a sports team, president of a society)
  • Has professional work experience (e.g. internships, summer placements, etc.) This can include regular voluntary experience but should be positions where you have had responsibility for something, worked to deadlines, worked with others etc.

Skills:

  • Communication skills (face-to-face, email, text, phone)
  • Time management and administrative skills (can manage tasks effectively and accurately)
  • Confident in use of MS word and excel
