App/Software Tester (non IT role), £12 - £20 per hour (Bristol) in Horfield

Do you have top marks (in any subject)? Are you strongly numerate and have good writing skills? Do you have a sharp, analytical mind? Are you looking for flexible part-time work over the summer?

What are you going to do:

I am a freelance consultant who works on information systems for healthcare in developing countries. For one of our projects, we require approximately 100 hours of additional app/software testing support between now and mid-August. This work involves both extremes: repetitive data-entry that requires a high degree of concentration and accuracy; and creative detective work as you explore, bend and twist the apps/software to find bugs and diagnose errors.

You do not need to have previous testing or IT experience – we will provide training. Instead, what we are looking for is someone who stands out from the crowd for their intelligence, lateral thinking, ability to learn quickly, attention-to-detail and dedication. You will need to be strongly numerate, and have good writing skills. And since you’ll need to hit the ground running, you will need to show a lot of initiative, taking on new skills and exploring different ways of approaching this work.

What we offer:

We can offer a competitive rate of £12-£20 per hour (which will rise if you master key skills in the software we are using), and a very flexible and supportive working environment (part-time work that can fit around other commitments).

What we ask:

  • No degree required
  • No previous experience required
  • We are looking for:

  • Excellent grades (eg a first/distinction in the past year) in any subject
  • Extensive experience as a general user of websites and Android apps (you do not need to be an IT expert – we want someone with a user’s perspective)
  • Strong numeracy, with some experience analysing data of any sort (eg Excel or SPSS/Stata)
  • Very good written communication skills (able to explain concepts in plain English)
  • Ability to give this work a lot of focus and dedication while on-the-job
  • Availability to start immediately.

(We will be doing skills tests with short-listed candidates, so please only apply if you meet all of the criteria above.)

Ongoing availability would be helpful, as this project may be extended beyond mid-August, and there may also be the possibility of regular part-time work during the next academic year.
