Head of Tax - German Speaking - full-time - Wimbledon - South London

Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to join Lidl as we move in to an ‘even more ambitious’ period of growth and expansion. The purpose of the Head of Tax is to manage, develop and pool expertise in taxation matters (taxes on earnings, value added tax, excise duties, transactional, capital-based and other taxes), ensure compliance with all tax legislation (as well as quality, risk & compliance management), and to optimise both operational and administrative processes, procedures and systems.

What will you do?

  • Managing, organising and planning for the Tax Department
  • Ensuring departmental goals and duties are achieved and fulfilled to a high standard and in a cost-effective and timely manner
  • Planning staff requirements and development
  • Managing staff in accordance with the company guidelines and principles of leadership and good conduct
  • Recruiting new employees as required and conducting staff appraisals and performance goals

Your department

  • Preparing and filing tax returns, applications and claims (VAT, earnings, excise and other taxes), as well as other tax-related registrations
  • Coordinating matters relating to customs duties
  • Monitoring the payment of taxes due and tax refunds
  • Ensuring compliance with tax payment deadlines
  • Assisting with tax audits and claiming legal remedies
  • Performing tax planning
  • Carrying out tax accounting and preparing tax values for the annual accounts (current and deferred taxes)
  • Defining tax processes and key user functions for tax-related systems
  • Preparing and updating transfer pricing documentation
  • Preparing the tax reporting in accordance with internal standards
  • Analysing tax aspects of operational transactions and processes
  • Overseeing restructuring projects from a tax point of view
  • Selecting external advisors as required
  • Creating internal guidelines
  • Carrying out system tests in regard to tax requirements, and granting clearance on projects and system releases
  • Ensuring that all current business processes re compliant and agreed with LIDL International
 
What will you need?
  • Qualified Accountant or equivalent with demonstrated and effective people management experience
  • Substantial Tax Management experience gained within industry  (Post qualification)
  • In-depth knowledge and experience of UK taxation matters
  • Refined negotiating skills with sound commercial acumen
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines
  • Ability to set and manage budgets
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills
  • Proficient to a business level in English and German languages
  • A full driving licence and the flexibility to travel throughout the UK
