As and When Child Support Worker in London

To provide support and assistance to disabled children and young people to enable them to remain in their own homes and communities and assist them to reach their full potential.

What are you going to do:

3.1 Care Practice

  1. To support and assist with a child's personal
    care needs such as washing, dressing, bathing, managing incontinence and toileting.
  2. To participate in the supervision of mealtimes and assist in feeding children and young people.
  3. Assist with the manual lifting of children and the use of equipment such as hoists, electrical or
    manual. Following a risk assessment, to
    follow through advice and training given.
  4. To contribute to ensuring the service meets the individual, physical and social and cultural needs for each child/young person.
  5. To ensure that a child's religious, cultural and linguistic needs are respected and met.
  6. To encourage creative leisure pursuits and supervision of children's leisure time out in the
    community.
  7. To enhance a child's independence and choice wherever possible.
  8. To follow through behaviour guidelines and approaches as advised within a multidisciplinary framework in dealing with challenging situations.
  9. To meet the specific health care needs of children where appropriate.
  10. Follow safe systems of work at all times in accordance with your responsibilities as an employee and Barnardo's Health & Safety and Fire Policies & Procedures. Inform the line manager of any defects in Health & Safety arrangements in the workplace or in workplace or in workplace activities, so that remedial action can be taken to prevent an accident or ill health.
  11. To become a certified First Aider.
  12. To ensure child protection procedures are adhered to and practiced.

3.2 Communication and Liaison

  1. To maintain effective communication and
    professional liaison within the team, the service and other relevant individuals and agencies.
  2. To attend group meetings, reviews and other meetings as required.
  3. To participate in supervision and training and staff appraisals.
  4. To converse with service users, listen and report necessary information to the supervisor.
  5. To keep daily records regarding the personal short breaks service sessions and the child.

3.3 Recording and Administration

  1. To account for any monies or financial
    responsibilities which may be delegated.
  2. To assist in the preparation of written reports for reviews and reports on accidents and incidents.
  3. To maintain a record of medication administered to the child.
  4. To become fully conversant with the philosophy, aims and objectives of the service, working within agreed policies and procedure

Other Duties:

  1. To maintain confidentiality about a child and
    family, except where to do so would put the child at risk.
  2. To work unsociable hours such as early mornings, evenings and weekends.
  3. To work in an unsupervised role in the absence of a child's parent or guardian.
