Carmona is a beautiful, safe and quiet town of just 30 km east of Seville, and 50 minutes by bus.
The Casa Palacio de Carmona is a XVIth Century palace with 33 bedrooms and an elegan restaurant in the centre of Carmona, opened in 1991 as a Luxury hotel. The Casa Palacio de Carmona serves clients for many different purposes - corporate meetings, cultural tours, the occasional wedding, fly & drive individual clients, business lunches, drinks at the bar.
As an intern you will be carrying out a large number of different tasks, mostly on demand that the occasion calls for, and mostly directly related to immediate client needs.
You will be serving clients directly. You will have to carry out reception tasks such as assigning clients to particular rooms in the planning, preparing the key cards, welcoming them on arrival, showing them the palace and taking them and their bags to their rooms, charging parking on their bills, and breakfasts and consumptions, and also responding to questions of local knowledge and managing room service requests or needs for maintenance. At the reception you will also be responsible for printing invoices and taking payments, and many other more varied ancillary tasks.
Further to this, you will be asked to help serving meals - we have an elegant restaurant that serves few but highly knowledgeable clients - and we will train you in professional table service. Also, when we serve a meal to a group as a scheduled event, you will take part in the organization, setting up tables, being part of a service team that follows a rigorous and synchronized service procedure. We will also teach you to set up, prepare, make and serve breakfasts, for individuals and for groups, and you will be part of the service team.
Often, once we have seen that you have sufficient command of operations, you will work alone, especially if there is little activity, that can be attended well by only one person.
It is likely that there will be days in which we may have a surge of work and you may be expected to work more hours than normal - this is not what we want for anyone, but it would amount to misrepresenting the job if we do not expressly inform you. In these occasions we pledge to provide you with time off proportional to the time of overwork, as soon after (the next day or day after next) as is possible.
The Casa Palacio de Carmona is very beautiful and calm, and we have normally from 4 to 8 rooms occupied on average per day, so we are not normally overly busy - but we do serve sophisticated meals, mostly breakfast (8.30 to 11 AM) and dinners (7-11:30 PM) , which take planning, preparation time and service work.
We continually run the hotel with the help of interns / we have in total four positions, two for reception and two for kitchen. You will be provided with a room with its own bathroom within the house, to share with one or (in a rare occasion, not yet occurred) two persons of your same gender. You will be able to cook for yourself from part of the foods of the hotel, and also be served food when it is made (sometime by you, or by another member) for the personnel. The ambience is one of sincerety, friendship and positive collaboration. The position is a very good opportunity to learn a very wide range of functions, in a real time environment, and in a good level of depth and sophistication. While it is not an easy position, overall it is an invaluable opportunity for maturing, development of knowledge, skills and confidence.
