Residential House Parent & Sports and Activities Leader (6 weeks) in Ware

Work for 6 weeks in July and August 2018 for the St Edmund's College Summer School. Residential position working with international children.

40 hours per week

What are you going to do:

The Summer School:

St Edmund's College is an independent day and boarding school in rural Hertfordshire. The Summer School is an integral part of the College and has been running for 21 years. Each year we accept over 300 children aged 10-17 from overseas to our summer courses. The Summer School is currently ranked the best boarding Summer School in the UK (EL Gazette, September 2017).

The position: Residential House Parent & Sports and Activities Team Leader.

This role involves looking after, teaching and entertaining the children at the Summer School. The Residential House Parents are responsible for the children's well-being, as well as leading activities such as sports, art or music. They sleep in the dorms with the children, and will be on 'overnight duty' for 7 out of each 14 nights. The House Parents are responsible for getting the children up in the morning, leading sports and activities in the afternoons and evenings, accompanying the children on excursions, and making sure they go to bed at night. There is one day off per week.

The pay and conditions:

Pay for the 6 weeks is £3,844. The start date is Saturday, July 7 2018 and the last day is Sunday 19 August 2018. You must be able to start and finish on these dates.

Accommodation, meals, laundry and uniform are all included. This is a residential position, meaning that all staff live and work at the College for the duration of the Summer School. Residential staff are given one day off per week. Offers of employment are subject to DBS checks, and (provided) level 1 child protection training must be completed before the start of the Summer School.

  • 3 'A' levels and enrolled on undergraduate programme
  • Experience working with children
  • Fluent, native speaker of English
  • Undergraduate student or recent graduate of a sports, education or medicine based degree
  • Eligible to work in the UK
  • Available to work from Saturday 7 July to August 19 August 2018
