Undergraduate Placement, Marketing, Birmingham, 2018

Job description

The PwC Deal
No matter which area of the business you choose to join, all routes offer the same deal. The opportunity to grow as an individual, to meet new people, and build lasting relationships that will stay with you for life. Your hard work will be rewarded with a competitive salary and a personally tailored benefits package.

Undergraduate work placement
These eleven-month placements are for students who need to complete a placement as part of their degree. You could sit a selection of professional accounting exams and leave with a graduate job offer to fast track into a second year role upon graduation.

You'll work alongside graduate trainees and experienced professionals on everyday projects. So you'll get a good insight into working life at PwC.

Sales and marketing

This large, fast-paced team covers a wide range of critical business activities within PwC; from event management, corporate hospitality, research, strategic marketing (proposition development and campaigns), through to business development, proposal support and key account management.

SMT are focussed on supporting the development and implementation of our market strategy - specifically, driving revenue growth, enhancing relationships and networks, and therefore creating a distinctive brand experience. This exciting work placement provides the opportunity to work within a market-leading professional services organisation.

What you'll do

You’ll develop the foundations of a marketing and business development career aligned to one of our regional, industry, or line of service business areas. We’re an innovative, creative and fun team operating at a fast pace to react to the market trends, take advantage of commercial opportunities and provide an insight to the PwC practice staff - from new joiners on our graduate scheme through to Partners. It’s an interesting place to work and a hands-on role.

The experience is gained by delivery and “doing” rather than sitting next to someone watching what they do. The nature of the role also provides opportunities to develop other “soft skills” which are highly valued by employers such as teamwork, leadership and influencing skills amongst others.

This placement will give you first-hand experience within an organisation that has marketing and business development at the core of its strategy. It will be challenging, exciting, fast-paced and most of all, rewarding.

Responsibilities (may vary)

  • Provide support to deliver market and business development campaigns across multiple channels

  • Provide support on the best practice approach to marketing campaigns, as defined by the team, and strive to uphold our quality and brand standards

  • Collect and analyse short and long-term return on investment metrics on specific campaigns and track resulting client opportunities

  • Demonstrate active use of CRM system (Salesforce) to support business development activities, including recording notable client opportunities and actively contributing to the management information for clients

  • Proactively seek to learn about new channels to market and bring innovative new ideas on how we can engage with our audiences and stakeholders

  • Work closely with the Senior Managers and Managers to execute campaigns in line with timeframes and agreed budgets

  • Work effectively and in collaboration with executives in other parts of the Sales and Marketing Team to deliver a client-focused outcome

  • Bring curiosity and challenge so that key campaigns are continuously improved.

What you'll gain
By experiencing life inside one of the world's largest professional services organisations, you'll have a fantastic opportunity to build and work on your commercial awareness and interpersonal skills. Nothing can beat on-the-job experience for developing your skills - and you'll get plenty of it, both within PwC and on-site with clients - but we'll also steer you in the direction of appropriate training courses to develop you further. We'll also be looking to boost your ability to soak up complex business information, as well as your professional confidence - factors which will make a real difference when you return for your last year at university.

What you need to get in

  • You'll need to be on course for a 2.1 degree or above in any subject
  • You'll need to be on four-year degree programme that features a sandwich placement element

Outstanding potential takes many forms and academic success is just one measure. That's why we have our 'Outstanding Achievement' entry route - it's an innovative way we're able to support applications from people who may not have met the academic requirements we're looking for, but have excelled in something else.

Do you need sponsorship to work in the UK?
We can't provide sponsorship for internships and fixed-term placements. However, if you're in full-time education in the UK under the Tier 4 (General) category, current regulations may permit temporary employment during holiday periods or as part of your studies. If you're studying outside the UK, you'll need to obtain your own right to work in the UK to undertake a placement with us.

We know that the skills and experiences you develop with us will stay with you throughout your career. So join PwC. We'll help you reach your full potential.

Take the opportunity of a lifetime.
