The Programme

An internship at Deloitte is a fantastic way to get up close to the world of business, find out what excites and inspires you, and where it could take you. As well as vital work experience, over 12 weeks you could have a graduate job offer in your pocket before you even finish university.

The Opportunity

We are looking for candidates who can help us uncover the information within large datasets, to help our clients make smarter decisions. Your primary focus will be in applying data mining techniques, doing statistical analysis, creating visualisations, and developing algorithms. Below are some of the current projects that you may be interested in:

Content Analytics:

Content analytics uses commercially available and bespoke software to interrogate different forms of media. It aims to categorise the nature of the media and highlight to the user any important content information. Specifically content owners are extremely interested in the scene classification, summarising live or archived video libraries from both a compliance and commercial perspective.

Potentially required scene classifications topics are: violence identification, sporting goals or distinguishing conversation from background noise.

Consumer Analytics:

Over time it has become noticeable that high end handsets mobile phone contracts are increasing in price and length (or adopting novel retention strategies). The aim of this project is to investigate high level market forecasts on the direction of product segments and the sensitivities to the assumptions.

Anomaly Detection Engine:

Anomaly detection is the process of identifying events or items from datasets that differ from expected behaviour. Anomaly detection finds applicability in a wide variety of areas such as fraud detection for credit cards, insurance or health care, medical applications, intrusion detection for cyber-security, fault detection in safety critical systems, and military surveillance for enemy activities.

As part of this placement, interested candidates are expected to learn and contribute to a few of the areas below.

Chatbot Development:

We are looking for high calibre students to join our team and help solve complex business problems using machine learning and artificial intelligence. The student should have strong problem solving, programming and analytical skills, possess strong logical and communication skills and be passionate about developing capabilities in the different areas of this growing practice. Coursework and/or experience in programming (e.g. python) and/or statistical analysis (e.g. R) is required, exposure to data mining, machine learning and artificial intelligence is a plus. This project will involve creating a natural language generation algorithm to create question variations to train a chatbot.
