Teachers - Activity Leaders in Watford

We are looking for activity leaders and teachers to teach small classes and lead activities in our centres across the UK and Ireland. The role is available as both residential and non-residential.

8 - 40 hours per week
£8.00 Per Hour

What are you going to do:

OSCARS operates up to eight international junior vacation centres. We are looking for activity leaders to lead activities in our centres across the UK and Ireland. The role is available as both residential and non-residential.
As a member of OSCARS Activity Crew, you will be expected to lead groups of teenagers from overseas on a variety of afternoon/evening and weekend activities that make for an exciting and rewarding cultural programme. The activities take the form of a variety of local excursions, sports activities, evening entertainment, arts, crafts and dance. You will also provide leadership on the full day excursions on a Saturday and Sunday. You will be expected prepare in advance for all activities and excursions following guidelines from the centre management. You will play a key part in ensuring the welfare of the students and in conjunction with the Social Programme Manager focus upon the safety aspects of all activities. You must attend induction at centre prior to starting your contract.
The following are the main tasks involved and may vary from centre to centre:

On-site Activities & Duties

  • You will plan, prepare and deliver a number of activities on-site which can include sports activities, arts & crafts, talent shows, team building, highland games, OSCARS themed discos, quiz nights and many more
  • You will provide pastoral care to all of OSCARS students. This may include supervising break/meal times, lights out duties, evening patrol and at other times where care is needed.
  • Meet and greet new students to an OSCARS centre
  • Wave students goodbye at the end of their stay
  • Offering Group Leaders information on activities/excursions and responding to their requests as appropriate
  • Ensure risk assessments are carried or followed for all aspects of the on-site social programme

Off-site Activities & Excursions

  • Be responsible for taking a group of students on a pre-arranged excursion or tour by private coach/public transport
  • Ensure the Group Leaders and students are aware of the itinerary for the excursion and make them aware of timings, meeting points and departure points.
  • Ensure your own knowledge of the excursion, and make sure you have any guide and information packs with you for this
  • Interact with the students & Group Leaders whilst on the activity/excursion
  • Give appropriate support to enable students to put into practice their English
  • Meet groups of students at the airport
  • Respond to any emergencies should they occur
  • Attend meetings as required
  • Ensure student discipline and welfare at all times
  • Respond to any client/student queries appropriately

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Willingness to organise and partake in sporting activities/educational visits and evening entertainments
  • Be outgoing, organised and have large amounts of energy
  • Be able to work as part of a team and show leadership to groups of teenagers

Desirable

  • Previous experience of working in a summer school environment
  • Working towards a qualification in sports, arts & crafts or youth work
  • Commitment to providing an excellent social programme for OSCARS clients.
  • Willingness to involve yourself fully within a summer school environment
  • Previous experience of promoting welfare and safeguarding children
  • A first aid qualification
