Developer in Bradford

We’ve got an opportunity for 2 dynamic and driven developers to join our Morrisons Digital Application team at our Head Office in Bradford.

We’re looking for someone who’s got a strong background in the full life-cycle of Java development and is keen to use the latest technology on Cloud platforms.

The team you’ll be joining is made up of 10 colleagues with varying levels of experience, all with great focus and strong team synergy.

In the role of a Developer at Morrisons you’ll get a real breadth of responsibility,  you won’t just be coding in Java, you’ll be working to add value to the business by really understanding business requirements and getting to grips with how your technical role fits into and impacts on the wider business.

What else will you be doing in the role?

• Defining, designing, delivering and transitioning business change via the development of resilient high quality Java micro-services which leverage serverless architecture on Cloud platforms (Amazon and Google)

• Managing NoSQL data stores on Dynamo DB and Google DataStore, as well as relational data on Postgres and BigQuery

• We’re hoping you’ll be excited to have a go at harnessing the full functionality offered by AWS and GCP including ECS, EC2, Elastic Map Reduce, Elastic Search, Lambdas, AppEngine and Compute Engine, although you don’t necessarily need to have used these things before, have a read up before you meet us

• Helping to drive the technical direction of the team, and 3rd party development resource, to maintain currency and relevance in the technology market

• Working with Technical Architect to build the end to end system framework

• Harnessing the DevOps experience to create the automated software build and deployment pipelines and automated provisioning of environments and support assets

What do you need to be a success in the role?

• Full life-cycle development experience in Java, following Agile principles

• Modern day development experience in Microservices, Containers (Docker)

• The drive to push your peers and dev team and manage a technical work load

• Strong written and verbal communication of technical detail

Other things that would be nice for you to have but aren’t essential to your application include; AWS or GCP and Terraform experience, Enterprise Application Integration using REST, SOAP, XML, JSON, Flat File, Atom or SFTP, COTS Integration and Integration Security experience, knowledge of API Gateways, Iterative Development and Data Extraction, Migration, Synchronization & Transformation across multiple systems. As well as experience in Test Driven Development, Unit and Component Integration Testing,  automated testing using nosetests, selenium and cucumber framework, Continuous Integration, Testing and Deployment, Code configuration following GitFlow, release management with Pipeline configuration, both using Bitbucket and Jenkins  and Confluence & JIRA tools.
