Academic Coach in London

Eastside are looking for committed university students or recent graduates to work on a 1:1 or small group basis with our senior students in year 10 and 11 offering academic coaching to support them in achieving their fullest potential in their GCSE exams. These will take place on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings and afternoons. Academic Coaches can expect between 3 and 5 hours of paid work per week.

What are you going to do

Academic Coaching interventions include:

  • Weekly or fortnightly 1:1 meetings concentrating on students' academic organisation
  • Informal testing and tutoring to support progress in English, Maths and other GCSE subjects (according to speciality of coaches) between December and June
  • Signposting and supporting students to access a range of educational resources
  • Supporting students with trialling and adopting different study, revision and personal organisation techniques
  • Providing a role model of academic achievement to students
  • Providing detailed feedback to Academic Coaching Coordinator, flagging up areas for concern, highlighting successes and improvements

What we ask:

  • At least finished college A levels
  • Dynamic students or recent graduate
  • Evidence of a strong academic track record
  • A genuine interest in working with young people
  • Confidence supporting GCSE aged students in a 1:1 or small group capacity
  • Knowledge and experience of different studying strategies
  • Some experience working with children, either in a formal or informal educational setting
  • Effective communicator
  • Desirable: Ability to tutor students to GCSE standard in Maths, English or another subject.
