Job description

Group Data Protection Officer / Head of Data Protection

This is a fantastic opportunity to come and work for a company voted 5th in the Great Place to Work (Best Large Workplaces) awards 2018, and Number 15 in Europe in 2017! We have over 450 stores and over 310 Groom Rooms and are the UK's number one pet care business. Our business is fast-paced, innovative and fun and it's our people that make the difference.

We are focussed on constantly improving our online shopping and service experience and a key part is being able to place our data at the heart of that journey. The General Data Protection Regulation GDPR) has given us a wonderful opportunity to re-think our marketing processes, technology and organisation from the ground-up with a customer-first mind set embedded at each and every step. We want to optimise the ways in which we interact with our customers and we are seizing the moment to set out a culture of data confidence among shoppers.

Having got the business to a state of readiness for GDPR with the support of external GDPR specialists, we are now looking to appoint our first internal Group Data Protection Officer for the Pets at Home group covering both the Retail and the Vet Division. We are also looking for someone who wants to grow their career at Pets at Home and willing to turn their hand to what may come their way in the field of IT contracts and other general commercial issues in a way that a number of our other in-house legal advisors and specialists have already done. As this is a group role some travel between our Handforth and Swindon Support offices plus other main locations will required from time to time. If you have the drive and ambition to be part of the fast pace world of retail and services then Pets at Home is the place for you.

• Conducting privacy impact assessments on group projects involving the processing of personal data.

• Reviewing commercial agreements whereby personal data is received from or shared with 3rd parties and ensure their compliance with GDPR.

• Advising on data transfers and negotiating and drafting data processor agreements.

• Training colleagues and increasing awareness across the group on data and privacy related matters.

• Working closely with the business systems team on information security and also on the drafting of any business systems related contracts.

• Ensuring the Group complies with legislation relating to subject rights requests and ensuring the Group complies with applicable subject rights legislation.

• Handling information security/data protection related complaints or litigation.

• Some general commercial contracts work including IT.

• A strong commercial background from either industry or private practice is essential, as is a knowledge of UK data protection law, GDPR and PECR requirements.

• You will have at least four years' experience in data protection and privacy work whether from a private practice or an existing in-house position.

• A relevant data privacy qualification such as IAPP CIPP/E and or CIPM or equivalent.
