About the role

Tesco Maintenance are looking to recruit a Senior HVAC Engineer in the Guildford area. At Tesco, our stores and offices couldn’t function without the support of our Maintenance Team. Our Service Team are an integral part of this. A HVAC & Commercial Gas Engineer, working closely with the wider service team, deliver a great quality service to Tesco customers and colleagues using our operating model in order to minimise breakdowns which could impact trading.

You will be responsible for
  • Undertake all allocated HVAC and Gas reactive and planned maintenance tasks to an agreed standard.
  • Complete tasks within SLA requirements, with work orders opened and closed in real time.
  • Verisae usage and parts replenishment.
  • Timely completion of reactive and planned works carried out to agreed standards, achievement of first fix and maximising equipment uptime.
  • Effectively diagnose and identify faults and failures with equipment and systems and provide effective solutions and escalate where necessary.
  • Provide regular updates to helpdesk and planning team on task status.
  • Liaising with the store technicians and updating them on the status of maintenance work.
  • Provide HVAC technical support as required, e.g. advice regarding major operational issues.
  • Carry out work in accordance with all health and safety requirements and adhere to best safety working practices at all times.
  • Ensure parts and materials are ordered in a timely manner through company processes. Fit parts or components as prescribed by company procedures.
  • Ensure appropriate audits and checks are carried out in line with standards provided.
  • Deal with and make safe all health & safety related works following processes laid down by organisation’s Health and Safety Policy.

  • Proactively manage task volumes in conjunction with the helpdesk and planning team.
  • Notify the helpdesk and planning team of procedural task condition on completion of works.
  • Complete engineering surveys and technical reports as necessary and cascade all key data to relevant personnel.
  • Attend training courses as and when necessary to ensure skills are kept up to date to meet customer needs.
  • Supporting change within the business to ensure continuously improved performance. Highlighting opportunities to complete tasks in a “better, simpler or cheaper” way.
  • Delivering non-negotiable standards across the store.
You will need

Skills and experience needed to be great at this role:

  • The ability to prioritise workloads.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent is required along with FGAS 2079 cat 1 as a minimum requirement.

Ideal gas certificate required for this role:

  • CCN1 – Core domestic gas safety assessment criteria – NG
  • CDGA1 – Commission, service, repair & breakdown of commercial direct fired heating appliances & equipment – NP & LPG
  • CENWAT – Install, exchange, service, repair, breakdown and commission domestic central heating & hot water boilers.
  • CKR1 – Install, exchange, service, repair, breakdown and commission domestic gas cooking applicants – NG & LPG
  • COCN1 – Core commercial gas safety assessment criteria – NG
  • CORT1 – Commission, service, repair and breakdown of gas fired commercial overhead luminous radiant plaque & radiant tube heaters – NG & LPG
  • CPA1 – Combustion performance analysis – NG & LPG
  • HTR1 – Install, exchange, service, repair, breakdown and commission domestic open balanced and fan assisted flued gas fires and wall heaters – NG & LPG
  • ICPN1 – Installation of commercial pipework (first fix) – NG & LPG
  • J01 – Flue liners
  • L1 – Energy conservation L1 (City & Guilds 6084)
  • TPCP1 – Testing & purging of low pressure commercial pipework, exceeding 1m3 in volume, up to 7 bar operating pressure NG & 2 bar LPG. – NG & LPG
  • TPCP1A – Testing & purging of low pressure commercial pipework NOT exceeding 1m3 in volume, 21 MBAR operating pressure - NG

Ideal additional skills include:

  • Experience in:
    - Air conditioning.
    - Comfort cooling systems.
    - Ventilation systems.
    - Hot & cold water systems.
    - LPHW heating & water systems.
    - Controls systems.
    - Electrical installations.
  • Hands on experience of large Multi deck DX coil package system / VRV's / Split systems.
  • Experience in a customer focused environment.
  • Great team working experience.
