Support Worker for disabled child in family home in Bedwas

Gill Walker, Case Manager, is looking for a part-time female support worker for 11 year old girl with Cerebral Palsy. HENGOED AREA. Waking night shifts to cover for some shifts, e.g. when regular support workers are on holiday, sickness cover, additional shifts needed in school holidays etc. May be some day time hours in school holidays. Subject to satisfactory Enhanced DBS / references. Employer will be child's mother. 

3 - 36 hours per week
Between £12.00 and £14.00 Per Hour

What are you going to do:

  • Reading stories / assisting play at appropriate times
  • Getting child ready for bed
  • Manual Handling using hoist, slidesheets, etc (training will be provided)
  • Settling child off to sleep
  • Gastrostomy care (training will be provided)
  • Changing child's nappies as required / meeting hygiene needs
  • Giving Medications & fluids via Gastrostomy & sometimes feeds (training will be provided)
  • Administration of emergency epilepsy medication if required (training will be provided)
  • Changing child's position for maintaining postural alignment, comfort and pressure sore prevention (training will be provided)
  • Carrying out therapist prescribed exercises / stretches (training will be provided)
  • Monitoring of child either directly or via monitor
  • Keeping child's toys, clothing, environment / medication preparation area, etc, clean and tidy
  • Cleaning and checking of equipment, stock checking
  • Keeping accurate records
  • Responsible to Case Manager

What we ask:

  • No minimum education required Would suit Nursing / Allied Health Care student
  • Experience of care work in a family home environment would be an advantage
  • Previous experience working with disabled children preferred
  • Previous Support work experience would be advantage
  • Health and social care qualification an advantage
  • Good communication skills
  • Experience of working with children / people with communication difficulties an advantage
  • Experience of working with wheelchair users an advantage

Hengoed area. Rural location so own transport required. Ability to work discreetly in a family environment is very important. Non-Smoking household - no smoking permitted in the client's home or garden (child has asthma).
