Background: ABC Camp is a camp for children between 8 and 17 years old. It is located “in the middle of nowhere” in central Ukraine and is away from major cities. The full camp name is called Celyn ABC Camp and it is a camp for Ukrainian kids to learn English. The camp has been operational since summer of 2008. Staff are bilingual Ukrainians as well as Brits, Americans, and other native English speakers. The concept is that Ukrainian kids are "forced" to speak English when they are submerged into English-speaking environment. Geography: It is situated in a pine forest and there is a river nearby which the camp uses during the day to go swimming.
Typical day would involve 2-3 of English lessons in classes of up to 15 followed by 4-5 hours of games, adventure activities, swimming in a local river nearby, playing musical instruments, rehearsing for a play etc. Sunday is a day off and the whole camp packs up and visits a historic Ukrainian city / venue of interest.
