Job description
- 30 hours per week as FLTA, adapted to the school schedule. Most of these will be teaching hours. The rest of the time, (up to a max. of 3 hours/week) FLTA’s might have to help teachers and parents with English.
- FLTA’s are expected to integrate with students in order to improve their linguistic competence in English. Therefore, oral practice and communication with students will be given prevalence over the other skills.
- Some FLTA’s will have to serve 2 schools due to the small sizes of the communities.
- FLTA’s will need to report to Red Leaf about their work/progress and keep constant communication with Red Leaf staff. Regular follow-up meetings with Red Leaf staff will be scheduled, the attendance is compulsory.
- FLTA’s will work with their mentor to prepare their work and projects
The class:
- Each class has around 25 students.
- Each class has a permanent English teacher who is in responsible for preparing the curriculum and directing the program for the students.
- The main skill you’ll have to work with the students is communication, always related to the main lesson the permanent teacher is teaching at the moment.
- You’ll have to support and help the permanent teacher, and also follow his/ her instructions.
Qualifications:
Person Specification for teachers:
Essential
- Studying towards a University degree or equivalent
- TEFL, CELTA and working experience as teacher of English
- Being an EU citizen – English native speaker
- Some teaching or working experience with children (on paid or voluntary basis)
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills
- Basic IT skills
- Energy, initiative and a positive attitude
- CRB checked
Desirable
- Educated to degree level
- Experience in TESL
- Presentation and performance skills with large groups
- Having Spanish paperwork ready to work in Spain
(Note: if you don’t have it you will be required to come early in order to get it)
Person Specification
- A love for young people (ages 3-11) and experience with young people (INFANTS)
- Active and dynamic trained professionals with experience in the educational field.
- Previous experience teaching English to elementary school students will be highly valued.
- Teaching English as a foreign language accreditation will be valued.
- Energy, initiative and a positive attitude
- A desire to share their language and culture
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills
A basic knowledge of the Spanish language (although you will NOT use your Spanish to communicate with the students)
