About The Role
Our Manufacturing sites are fast paced and demanding. We’re the only major UK supermarket with our own abattoir and meat processing site so, where better to develop your skills and grow your career?
 
Our Livestock Buyers are key to ensuring we get high quality product for our customers. As a Trainee Livestock Buyer you would work within and alongside the lairage, abattoir, factory and buying teams where you will broaden your knowledge of the impact of Livestock decisions can have on Morrisons. You will work on farm twice per week and hold a portfolio of suppliers to build relationships, select stock and widen knowledge. 
 
Reporting into the Senior Liverstock Buyer you will also be responsible for:
  • Safeguarding our business by getting closer to our customers; ensuring 100% of suppliers are visited
  • Building strong relationships with our suppliers 
  • Ensuring that livestock is sourced depending on our customers needs/demands
  • Working alongside all livestock entities, providing and resolving issues regarding livestock deliveries, overnight stocking densities, over and under deliveries and the changes of deliveries required by operations
  • Ensuring that all information is provided on time in full to ensure cross functional departments can complete their job
  • Monitoring KPI's and review our publicity and marketing - working closely with the livestock development and admin teams
  • Working at pace to ensure all buying is done on time, in full, as soon as possible
  • Challenging costs where possible ensuring that stock is sourced direct from farm and as efficiently as possible
This job will require you to work 5 over 7 days.

About Turriff Manufacturing:
 
 Here we produce high quality meat for processing at our meat and chilled manufacturing sites. There’s also a good chance that your lamb chops came from this site in Scotland. Operating five days a week, our Turriff manufacturing facility covers 150,000 square feet on seven acres of land. At our cattle and sheep processing site, our 300+ colleagues supply beef and lamb to Farmers Boy, retail and external businesses. We also source Scottish livestock for our Scottish stores.

Please note: this involves working in an Abattoir environment as well as field based.

About You
We'd ideally like you to have buying / sourcing knowledge, but it's not essential. However you must have:
  • The right understanding of the business to become a livestock buyer within reasonable time
  • Knowledge of the livestock industry 
  • The ability to build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Drive and willingness to learn and adapt to various environments
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to deal with various customers: Operational/Supplier/Retail
