Graduate Software Developer role in East Hertfordshire

Optrak Distribution Software Limited is inviting applications for a Software Developer to join our team in Ware to take a central role in delivering a project to develop advanced analytics in combination with optimisation techniques for Vehicle Routing and joining a professional Agile software development team. Optrak specialises in Vehicle Routing and Scheduling software and related consultancy. The company works primarily in the Scala programming language using the latest functional programming tools and paradigms.

37 - 40 hours per week
Between £28,000 and £35,000 Per Year

What are you going to do:

This is a new and important role for Optrak, who are looking to enhance their logistics optimisation software to incorporate additional business intelligence functionality and insight into customer operations. You will engage with Optrak's customers, staff and other logistics experts to help build the right products for Optrak and its customers. Experience of working in a commercial environment and logistics, in particular, would be highly desirable.

The role provides an excellent opportunity to learn new new idioms and techniques applicable to analytics – including streaming and potentially some machine learning.

Candidate

You should hold or be close to completion of an undergraduate (preferably a postgraduate) degree or equivalent in computer science, artificial intelligence, operational research or a related STEM discipline. Candidates without a computer science degree should have significant programming experience.

  • The role will require you to program in Scala and Javascript, so experience in those languages would be strongly preferred.
  • Training and guided self-learning programmes will be provided.

In addition, knowledge and experience of the following would be valuable:

  • Logistics, Operations Research, Mapping/GIS, OLAP/Analytics General business data modelling.
  • We want people who will bring enthusiasm, creativity and analytical thinking to the job as well as being proactive, and a good communicator.
  • You will be expected to make your own design decisions and be prepared to justify them during code reviews.
