Vacancy for Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician (PTPT)
Green Light Pharmacy have a vacancy for a Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician(PTPT), starting February 2020.
What is a Pharmacy Technician?
Pharmacy Technicians are healthcare professionals who are registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) for their license to practise. Pharmacy Technicians are professional skilled and essential members of the pharmacy team.Pharmacy technicians work in many different work environments, including community pharmacies, GP practices and hospital pharmacy departments.
In a Community Pharmacy, a Pharmacy Technician (PT) broadly prepares, dispenses and supplies a wide range and variety of medicines to patients. PT’smay also be involved in delivering public health services such as advice on stopping smoking.
In a GP practice setting, PT’s manage patient requests for prescriptions, reconcile medications following discharge from hospital or following out-patient appointments, contact patients to ensure they understand any changes to their medication and liaise with community pharmacies when necessary.
In a hospital pharmacy, PT’s oftenmanage the pharmacy department, are involved in taking medicine histories from patients and reviewing medicines, counselling, and giving advice on different treatment options. You will likely provide a link between wards, patients and the pharmacy, or be involved in manufacturing medicines where ready-made preparations are not available.
PTs, along with other Pharmacy Support Staff, work under the supervision of the pharmacist, and as registered professionals, are responsible and accountable for their own accurate and safe practice. What is a PTPT?
A Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician is someone who is undergoing the 2-year training course to become a registered Pharmacy Technician.
Green Light Multi-Sector Training Programme
The PTPT will be employed by Green Light on a 2-year training contract and will work across three areas of pharmacy practice. Each year will be split into 4-month blocks, with the PTPT rotating every 4-months between:
1. Green Light Pharmacy in St Andrew’s Health Centre, Bromley-by-Bow
2. Green Light GP Connect Practice Pharmacist/Patient Assistant team inSt Andrew’s Health Centre
3. Barts Health NHS Trust at the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel
Training
The PTPT will be assigned an educational supervisor who will support their learning and development throughout the 2-year programme. The PTPT will also be enrolled on a Pharmacy Technician course, a 2-year programme which is fully funded through this partnership.
Salary and Hours
-Salary is based on NHS pay rates (Agenda for Change) Band 4 (Annex 21):
- £16,632 in year 1 of training
- £17,820 in year 2 of training
-Upon qualification, salary increases to £21,089, or the equivalent Band 4 NHS pay rate in 2022
-Working hours: 37.5 hours per week
-Annual leave: 20 days per year plus bank holidays
As a Green Light employee, the PTPT would be eligible to join our employee ownership scheme. The scheme offers access to a Share Incentive Plan (SIP) which has tax benefits as well as opportunities for the investment to grow over time.
The training contract will begin in February 2020 and end in January 2022. At the end of the contract, we would envisage an opportunity for full or part time employment by one of the host organisations.
PTPT Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criteria for PTPTs to be considered for interview are:
- four GCSEs at Grade A*-C/9-4 including Maths, English Language and Double Science
- aged 16 years or above
If successful at the interview stage, the PTPT would undergo a DBS check and two references will be checked.
