Job Title: Medical Engineering Apprentice

Duration: 42 months (3 ½ years)

Hours: 37.5 hours Monday to Friday

Salary: GMS Apprentice Terms and Conditions

£10,132 per annum (£5.18 per hour) for 366 days, national minimum wage for age thereafter

 

Department/Area: Medical Engineering Department

 

Accountable to: Medical Engineering Manager and Team Leaders.

Location: Gloucestershire Royal Hospitalwill be the base site, but will be expected to work across the Gloucestershire Hospitals Trust (GHT) Estate, which includes Gloucestershire Royal Hospital/Cheltenham General Hospital and all satellite sites, GP surgeries and Charities

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Medical Engineering Apprentice to complete an Advanced (Level 3) Apprenticeship in Electrical and Electronics Engineering whilst gaining valuable experience working in a busy Medical Engineering Department.

The apprentice will also be expected to travel off site to the training provider (within the county). There is block release for the first twelve months then weekly day release for the 2nd year of the apprenticeship then workplace assessments for the remainder of the apprenticeship. The duration of the apprenticeship is for 42 months (3 ½ years).

The apprenticeship vacancy would be suitable for those who have an interest in pursuing a career in Medical Engineering. Career development is actively encouraged providing continual learning opportunities and ample scope to progress.

As a Medical Engineering Apprentice, you will be employed to work appropriately to core specialist skills and should possess levels of flexibility and competence to allow you to perform the following:

  • To train to undertake safety testing, routine maintenance and minor repairs on medical equipment.

 

  • To plan workload and prioritise tasks under supervision, upholding working standards, policies, procedures and objectives in order to maintain standards and service delivery.

 

  • Use computer skills to operate the asset management system (OPTIM), in order to record activity and equipment details ensuring that the information is accurate for both customer and managerial needs.

  • Maintain safety in the use and maintenance of medical equipment, by ensuring all equipment delivered into the department is correctly decontaminated, labelled and cleaned prior to acceptance.
