Healthcare Science Assistant Apprenticeship Level 2

This 15 month programme aims to develop competent Healthcare Science Assistants who can support healthcare science associates, practitioners, clinical scientists and others, in a variety of areas of Healthcare Science.

 

As a Healthcare Science Assistant Apprentice you'll support colleagues in healthcare science. You will be trained to perform a variety of Healthcare Assistant support roles in a busy department, which will involve meeting, communicating and working with people from all backgrounds.

You could be working directly with patients, preparing patients for diagnostic test, or you could be inputting data, following written procedures, ordering stock and any other associated administrative duties to support the team.

There will be classroom sessions and work based assessment which contributes to the learning element of the programme.

Apprentices will also complete a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate their learning and skills in practice in accordance with the apprenticeship framework.

 

 

The healthcare science level 2 apprenticeship is suited to those who are interested in the welfare of others and have a caring attitude to other people, with a keen interest in science.

 

We are looking for people who can put the patient’s needs before their own, be honest, friendly and have a professional attitude to work. The work will be based in busy departments; therefore will suit individuals who like to deal with a variety of tasks.

 

Through your working practices you will apply dignity, respect and maintain confidentiality, you will work well in a team, be courteous, sympathetic and professional.

It is also important that you maintain a safe working environment and contribute to the safeguarding of patients.

You will learn how to undertake the tasks involved in the role whilst in the workplace. You will need to be hard working, organised, committed to the team around you and have good communication skills.

Punctuality and reliability in attending workplace and college are essential.

The post holder will undertake work based training in conjunction with the Healthcare Science Assistant Training Programme, supported by the Academy of Healthcare Science.

 

This post does not guarantee permanent employment on completion, however the apprenticeship will provide you with valuable skills and experience to apply for future healthcare science supporting positions within the NHS.

Healthcare Science Assistants, with experience and further training could apply for positions as Healthcare Science Associates.

 

With further experience as a Healthcare Science Associate, you could progress your career and apply to train as a Healthcare Science Practitioner (by taking an undergraduate BSc (Hons) programme.)
