Job description

An exciting opportunity to join an ever-growing team as a Manual Underwriter, in our Barclays office in Manchester. You will be a part of Mortgage Operations, dealing with Underwriting Mortgage applications. We are looking for someone who is able to deliver world class customer service to improve the future of finance at Barclays.

•Underwrite Mortgage applications ensuring you deliver world class customer service, whilst complying with all regulations and conduct risk management requirements.
•Be able to analyse customer information and assess findings against lending criteria in order to make quality judgments leading to consistent underwriting decisions and customer outcomes. 
•Ability to clearly and concisely articulate the justification and rationale used to make responsible lending decisions in order to maximise service excellence.
•Refer to Senior Underwriters as appropriate using evaluative/ discretionary judgement as per the Lending Standards and Valuation Policy. 
•Deliver operational effectiveness within the business area, achieving KPI targets and objectives set by the business.
•Will work in line with industry standards (FCA guidelines). Will have a good understanding of the concepts, principles and policies in their area required to make lending decisions

•Regulation / Legislation Awareness -  Basic Understanding of the Regulated Financial Services environment. 
•Customer Orientation - Ability to demonstrate delivery of world class customer service on a day to day basis in line with lending decisions and customer outcomes awareness 
•Organising / Decision Making - A methodological approach and attention to detail, ability to make clear, reasoned and informed lending decisions at all times.
•Communications and Influence - Good written and verbal communication skills.

•Product / Market Understanding – Growing knowledge of mortgage product and bespoke underwriting capability.
•Supplier / Partner Relationships - Build and maintain relationships with Mortgage Brokers / Advisors and other third parties providing specific advice.
•Self-Management and Control - Ability to manage and organise their own caseload in line with the priorities of their business area.

You will be working in the heart of Manchester City Centre, which is a stone’s throw away from Piccadilly Train Station, local restaurants, bars and gyms.
