As a Clinical Psychologist you will work at Brighton & Hove Clinic, a Tier 4 specialist eating disorder service for children and adolescents aged 12 – 18 year olds. At the service, you will be assessing and evaluating information from the service users, family and team to develop their individual care plans. The unit currently has 10 beds and is expanding to 16.

You will be responsible for individual and group interventions, diagnostic and cognitive assessments, MDT working, risk assessments, facilitate staff reflective practice sessions and will be requested to design and deliver training. You will be able to manage an ongoing caseload as you will receive NHS CAMHS Tier 3 & 4 referrals.

Within the multidisciplinary team, you will work alongside the professional guidelines and contribute to the clinical psychology at Brighton & Hove Clinic to ensure high quality clinical care is maintained at the service.

As a Clinical Psychologist, you will be responsible for:

• Developing individualised care plan.
• Responsible for the collection and analysis of routine outcome measures.
• Assessing and evaluating information from the child, family and significant others, multi-disciplinary medical team and external agencies relating to medical condition and developmental status and incorporate this information into a clinical formulation
• Evaluating and making decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual or family
• Providing specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to service users formulation, diagnosis and treatment plan
• Contributing directly and indirectly to a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all service users of the service, across all settings and agencies serving the service users group
• Undertaking risk assessment and risk management for individual service users and providing advice to other professions on psychological aspects of risk assessment and risk management.
• Communicating in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of service under the specialist team’s care
• Attending as required, case conferences, MDT reviews and other meetings, as appropriate.
• Ensuring that reports and other correspondence are entered into the relevant notes and communicated to other professionals, parents and children, as appropriate.

To be successful in this role, you'll need

• Post graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology as accredited by the British Psychological Society.
• Experience of working with the adolescent/young age range
• Experience working with Eating Disorder service users
• DBT/CBT/ Family therapy trained
• A strong interest in the mental health of young people and their families
• Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS
• Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and data analysis as practised within the clinical fields of psychology
• Ability to form good working relationships with others in a multidisciplinary setting
• Evidence of personal resilience and aptitude for dealing with potentially distressing and highly emotive clinical work

Brighton and Hove Clinic provides highly specialist multidisciplinary assessment and treatment for children and adolescents with an eating disorder where behavioural or emotional problem may have resulted in a severely restricted dietary intake. Psychological interventions include individual therapy, systemic family therapy, therapeutic groups, meal support sessions and a parent support group.
