Nursing Associate Apprentice - KUSGUL Sept 20 - COVID-19

Job description

Lewisham and Greenwich Trust provides hospital and community services for more than 666,000 people across south east London. We put patients at the heart of everything we do, which is reflected in the positive feedback we receive. We are a friendly and dynamic place to work, with high levels of job satisfaction and excellent transport links serving our two hospitals – University Hospital Lewisham and Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Greenwich.

We are seeking dedicated, motivated people to help us provide high quality care to our local communities. In return for your hard work, we offer well-established, structured mentoring and staff development packages to support you in your role.

After applying via NHS Jobs, your submitted application will be imported into our preferred Third-party recruitment system. All subsequent information regarding your application will be generated from apps.trac.jobs. You will not be able to track the progress of your application or receive messages through the NHS Jobs website, and furthermore, as an employer, we will not be able to respond to any e-mails sent to us via the NHS Jobs website. By applying for this post, you are agreeing to Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust transferring the information contained in this application to its preferred applicant management system. If you are appointed to a post information will also be transferred into the national NHS Electronic Staff Records system

Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust (LGT) first introduced the Apprentice Nursing Associate role in November 2018 and we are continuing to expand the role throughout the Trust.  We are recruiting for our September 2020 cohort at Kingston University and St Georges University of London (KUSGUL).

Please be aware that due to current events, the timeline of this recruitment process is very short.  Prior to submitting an application you need to ensure that you will be available for interview week commencing 27th July 2020 and you are able to provide evidence of how you meet the entry requirements on the day of interview (i.e.: original qualification certificates).

This is a really exciting opportunity which will provide successful applicants with a broad range of knowledge, skills and experience gained in a variety of settings across the Trust; LGT Apprentice Nursing Associates will be rotated across different departments Trust wide, including the community, with occasional external placements with our partners.

The Nursing Associate role bridges the gap between that of the Registered Nurse and Health Care Support Workers, working closely alongside both to improve the care delivered by the team.

LGT are members of the South East Thames Nursing Associate partnership, working with Kingston University and St George’s University of London (KUSGUL) and London South Bank University (LSBU).  We are working closely with six other employer organisations to ensure that during the two year programme, Apprentice Nursing Associates in our partnership can gain the necessary knowledge, skills, behaviours and experience to enable them to qualify and register as professional Nursing Associates.

We have Apprentices at both universities; this advert is specifically for the September 2020 cohort at KUSGUL.

The two year apprenticeship is made up of:

  • 20% university attendance
  • 20% undertaking off the job learning (dedicated experiential learning in a clinical environment)
  • 60% undertaking work-based learning.

In order to be eligible to undertake this apprenticeship you MUST have English and Maths qualifications as set out in the Specification of Apprenticeship Standards for England (see additional information links p.9 – 13). You will be required to bring the certificates to interview with you; if you do not provide the evidence on the day of the interview you will not be interviewed.  If unsure if your English / Maths qualification will meet these requirements please e-mail lg.nursingassociate@nhs.net with details.

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, applicants will graduate with a foundation degree (level 5 qualification), enter a profession regulated by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and be employed by LGT as a Band 4 Nursing Associate (on condition of having successfully completed the End Point Assessment of the apprenticeship).

If you meet the Apprenticeship standards and would like to be an advocate for this new and developing role, we would like to hear from you.  Please read the Personal and Job specifications carefully. You should provide evidence in your application of the essential qualities required and why you are an ideal applicant for the Apprentice Nursing Associate role. Invites to interview will be sent to the e-mail addresses, you provided on your application.

The Nursing Associate Team:  Vikki Coleman, Nursing Associate Project Manager, Rachel Smith and Hellen Abidoye, Nursing Associate Clinical Practice Facilitators via lg.nursingassociate@nhs.net
