Specialist Health Protection Nurse - COVID-19 in Manchester

Job description

Manchester Health and Care Commissioning is a single commissioner for health and social care, comprising a partnership between Manchester Clinical Commissioning Group and Manchester City Council.

Manchester currently has 87 GP practices, three major hospitals, a mental health trust, citywide social care services, a range of health improvement services, and many voluntary and community organisations.

An opportunity has arisen for a Health Protection Nurse/Practitioner to join the Manchester Community Health Protection Team which is expanding in response to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Manchester Community Health Protection Team works closely with all partners across community, health and social care settings in Manchester to share evidence-based practice and expertise, develop and implement strategies to prevent, control and reduce human borne disease, carry out training and audit and offer specialist advice and support.

The team have a diverse remit that covers community, health and social care settings across the City of Manchester, including, Nursing and Care Homes, Primary Care, schools and other community venues.

You will lead on a defined area of health protection work as well as working generally across all aspects of the teams’ workload and will be supported by the team of Specialist Health Protection Nurses/ Practitioners and the Deputy Health Protection Lead Nurse.

You will be working across the whole system of health protection and infection prevention and control in collaboration with colleagues across Manchester City Council, Manchester Health and Care Commissioning, Manchester Local Care Organisation, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust and other organisations across Greater Manchester and wider.

You will be responsible for delivering and leading highly specialist clinical workload. In doing so, you will assess, plan, deliver and evaluate person centred programmes ensuring that you practice within your sphere of competence and knowledge. You will work to professional and regulatory body codes, standards and guidance at all times ensuring that your practice is grounded in evidence based theoretical and practical knowledge. You will be responsible for developing new and innovative clinical practices responding to emerging knowledge and techniques and working with other services where appropriate to make improvements.
