Are you a qualified nurse who is looking for a new challenge and is keen to develop your career to work with Children and Families?

We are seeking to recruit NMC registered nurses or midwives with a motivation to further develop their knowledge, public health and leadership skills to complete the Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (Health Visiting) course, in conjunction with Birmingham City University.

This is an exciting opportunity, if you have a passion and drive to make a difference in helping to meet the health and social care needs of children and their families across Birmingham, whilst contributing to the development and delivery of the Healthy Child Programme.

Health Visiting in Birmingham embraces a unique partnership between early years and health under the umbrella of Birmingham Forward Steps, providing support for children and families with universal and complex needs, in keeping with the Public Health Agenda and based on the 4, 5, 6 model. As a Health Visitor you can make a real difference to children, families and communities, undertaking a fundamental role in promoting child development, mental health and wellbeing, supporting parenting and tackling important public health issues.

Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is the largest community healthcare trust in the country which serves a diverse community and is striving to make positive changes.

As a Student Health Visitor with us you will be supported by Birmingham City University for the 50% academic study requirements of the course. The training is offered fulltime commencing February 2021 with fixed holidays set throughout the 52 week duration of the course. You must hold a full driving license. Throughout the course theory will be embedded into practice and as an NMC registrant you will be expected to further develop your communication, leadership and reflective skills. In practice you will be supported by dedicated and innovative Health Visiting colleagues who are committed to supporting and developing Student Health Visitors and then welcoming newly qualified Health Visitors into teams.

Successful completion of the course will lead to registration on Part 3 of the NMC register as a Health Visitor and eligibility to apply for a post within the integrated Health Visiting and Birmingham Forward Steps service which offers:

  • Access to clinical and safeguarding supervision
  • Access to a 12 month preceptorship programme
  • A continuous programme of in house professional development
  • A work place with a strong focus on staff wellbeing
  • Focus on developing clinical leadership skills
  • Future development opportunities for specialist roles e.g. safeguarding, homelessness, perinatal mental health
  • Access to IT and technology solutions to support agile working
