Job description

Job description

As more and more companies operate in global markets, the demand for tax professionals with an international outlook has increased too - and KPMG's global network of member firms is at the forefront of meeting this need. With a team of specialists in this area, Japan Practice in Tax focuses on assisting our UK firm's Japanese clients on the issues that could affect their European operations.

Combining hands-on client work and professional study, our Japan Practice in Tax programme is designed for ambitious graduates like you; keen to gain the international experience you need to support your professional development.

As well as enjoying access to the same high quality training and opportunities as our other Tax graduates, you'll concentrate on a number of our firm's Japanese clients that have a major European presence. Based in London, you'll be involved in a broad range of activity – including assisting in the day-to-day running of the Japan Practice client portfolio, operating a compliance programme involving personal tax returns and tax advice services for international assignees, and liaising with other departments and offices in KPMG's global network.

To join this programme, it’s essential that you have Japanese language skills and an appreciation of Japanese culture.

Like our clients, we're having to adapt. This means new working patterns, physical adjustments in our offices and new ways of interacting with our colleagues as well as the organisations we work with - we are harnessing technology to help underpin this change.

Capability:
Tax & Law
Programme Length:
36 months
Qualifications:
Dual qualification: ICAEW CFAB (or Scotland equivalent), ATT and CTA
Entry Requirements:

As a general rule, you’ll be expected to meet the following requirements (*or equivalents)

  • Minimum Grade B GCSE* English Language

At KPMG, we look at more than just your academic results. We will review your application, together with your performance in our assessments, to ensure that you have the best opportunity to demonstrate your potential. We will be considering your strengths and achievements alongside a number of other metrics, including technical background and/or experience, to ensure that you have the skills to succeed at KPMG.

Training and Development:

The training, development and regulation of our professionals is critical to the future success of our business which is why our people are trained to become experts in their field and supported to study for a professional qualification. All our new tax graduate entrants study for the ICAEW CFAB (or Scotland equivalent), ATT and CTA.

The programme uses innovative technology and is delivered via a blend of Online Classroom Live and recorded courses in addition to in-centre classroom courses. It also has wrap-around support which consists of specialist tutors, innovative online portal content and live and recorded additional study sessions which means there is a form of support for your every need. This blended approach enables you to study and learn the content at a pace suited to your learning style, but ensures all are at the right technical level prior to stepping into revision elements so you can focus on your exam technique before the exam. The structure of the programme spreads your examinations over the lifetime of the training contract so that you are able to build up your technical knowledge, and can gradually apply what you are learning in training to your workplace experience.

The impact of COVID-19 on professional qualifications:

The vast majority of KPMG's staff undertaking a professional qualification with either ICAEW, ATT, CIOT and/or ICAS were able to continue with their studies and examinations following the COVID-19 pandemic. We expect studies to be back to our usual mix of classroom and remote learning detailed below for our 2021 intake, and exams to be scheduled normally.
