What are you going to do:

As a retail assistant, your main responsibilities will often include, providing a quality service to customers, tidying the shop floor, serving on the tills and having good product knowledge. However, you will probably be asked to help to do a variety of other roles, such as preparing for sales or monitoring the fitting rooms and so on. 

A job in retail is a great way to gain a combination of hard and soft skills, these will be extremely valuable when applying to jobs in the future. Some of the key skills you will learn during a job in retail is communication, time management, teamwork, money handling and organization; these skills will all be incredibly important to have on your CV. You will also be able to give examples to an employer about when you used these skills during your job in retail which will be extremely beneficial. 

A job in retail often provides flexibility, allowing you to fit your work around your studies. You will often be asked if you want to be full-time, part-time or just a weekend contract. Most big retail branches will allow you to transfer between your university town and your home town (if they both have branches there). Although, this won't be the case for all retail jobs. 

You can expect to earn an average wage or slightly more. You will often receive a staff discount for your store and any sister companies they might have!
