The Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust (RD&E) provides Acute and Community services across Exeter and East Devon serving a population of more than 450,000 people. In our latest CQC full inspection of our services, the RD&E received an overall rating of “good”. We were rated as “outstanding” for our Emergency and Critical Care services, and for Caring Trustwide.

The Royal Devon & Exeter NHS Foundation Trust has been ranked as the joint best performing non-specialist Trust in the country for overall patient experience of care in the 2016 Care Quality Commission (CQC) Adult Inpatient Survey.

The main hospital site is in the historical Cathedral city of Exeter that has abundant family amenities and beautiful surrounding countryside. It is situated in the middle of the South West Region with easy access to the countryside and coast of Devon and Cornwall. It is well served by rail, road and air links. Good educational facilities such as the University of Exeter and good Ofsted rated schools are available locally. Our Community sites are equally well positioned and are a good place to work.

Enjoy a good quality of life in the South West and be part of our caring workforce.

A new, exciting opportunity has arisen for Healthcare Assistants to join our team at the Royal Devon & Exeter NHS Foundation Trust (RD&E), with the first placement being at the brand new, state of the art NHS Nightingale Hospital Exeter (NHE).

This is a fantastic opportunity to join the team as a Healthcare Assistant on a substantive basis, helping to provide outstanding care to patients initially at the NHE, then moving to the RD&E Wonford site.

NHE is the seventh Nightingale Hospital to be commissioned by the NHS to help manage the COVID-19 pandemic and is currently the only being used to care for patients with COVID-19.

At NHE, you will be part of a multi-disciplinary team that provides expert care to patients from across the Devon and Cornwall region.

You will work alongside likeminded individuals who are enthusiastic, highly skilled and motivated to provide the best care for patients with COVID-19.

You will need to be flexible and adaptable to support the new team at the NHE, before joining the wider team at the Wonford site.

The RD&E and NHE provide 24 hour, 7 day a week inpatient services and, therefore, the successful applicants will need to work a combination of days and nights, including weekdays, weekends and 12.5 hour shifts.

The role is a great opportunity for a caring and kind person who enjoys being a patient advocate and assisting people with their daily needs such as washing and dressing, mobilising and ensuring they get sufficient nutrition and hydration. Within this role, you gain extensive experience of being a part of a multi-disciplinary team that rehabilitates patients with COVID-19 (and in time, non-COVID) so that they can discharged home or to onward care.

During the initial placement at NHE only, accommodation can be provided for those travelling long distances. The location of the Nightingale Hospital affords the staff with the benefit of free parking and other welfare provisions, including ample staff changing/shower facilities, daily laundered uniform and free staff catering. This is available during the placement at NHE only, and will not be available when the placement here ends and moves to Wonford.

We will be reviewing applicants regularly and inviting to interview whilst the advert remains open.
