DIRECTORATE OF LABORATORY MEDICINE (PATHOLOGY)

Blood Sciences Department

Assistant Practitioner - Band 4 - Fixed Term (12 months)

Full-time 37.5 hours per week (with out of hours shifts)

£21,892 - £24,157 Per Annum

Applications are invited for a keen enthusiastic and suitably qualified individual to join our small but friendly team. The post holder will act as an Assistant Practitioner in our busy Blood Sciences Department mainly processing specimens for rapid COVID 19 testing using SAMBA II analysers.

Tameside Hospital is situated eight miles to the east of Manchester and serves a population of approximately 250,000. The hospital is situated for easy access to both central Manchester and the Peak District.

Duties will include setting up and maintaining the analysers, testing swab samples for COVID 19, troubleshooting, computer data input, filing and stock control. In addition, this will include general specimen reception duties and communication with ward staff and technical personnel.

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate 3 years’ experience working in a Pathology Laboratory and have a good knowledge of Laboratory Information Systems and other computer packages e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel. Good organisational and communication skills, manual dexterity, ability to show initiative and to work unsupervised and a keen eye for detail will also be required.

The service is currently operating between 6am and 10pm seven days per week. The post-holder will therefore be required to participate in a shift pattern in order to facilitate this.
