Delivery Manager in Manchester

4 - 40 hours per week

Job description

We’re looking for a Delivery Manager to join Footasylum to help our development teams deliver value to the business.

The role is currently fully remote but candidates with access to our Manchester and Rochdale offices are preferable for face-to-face meetings and workshops when safe to do so.

This is a challenging role for an experienced software delivery expert who can:

  • Support and motivate a development team in creating services used by millions of customers.
  • Coach team(s) and stakeholders in agile ways of working.
  • Identify, elaborate and track against clear and measurable objectives.
  • Communicate clearly with all levels of the business and bring together technical and non-technical conversations.
  • Identify, highlight and resolve any problems that might impact the ability of the team to deliver against objectives.
  • Form strong working relationships with business stakeholders and other members of the IT department.

Why Footasylum?

We’ve been going through a digital transformation, changing how we deliver value to our business. A big part of this change is fostering a culture of being open and honest, collaborating, having fun and enabling psychological safety.

We want to create a place for teams to do their best work, and you’ll have the opportunity to influence our decisions, help define standards across the teams and contribute to a healthy and happy working environment

The Team

You’ll initially be working in a multi-disciplinary team alongside a product manager and engineers across software, QA and data engineering.  The team are currently working on an integration project to utilise 3rd a party promotions engine in our customer loyalty scheme.

You’ll also have the opportunity to contribute towards the established community of practices at Footasylum for delivery managers across all our teams to promote better ways of working.

Here’s some real examples of what the existing delivery manager on the team has been working on recently, to give you an idea of the kinds of things you’d be doing:

  • Working with key business stakeholders on a coordinated release plan for the relaunch of our loyalty scheme
  • Collaborating with teams within the IT department to integrate our APIs with their services and systems
  • Coaching the team on all aspects of the Scrum framework while facilitating the delivery of two-week cycles
  • Teaching the team how to use different problem-solving approaches (reverse brainstorm, 5 whys, anti-goals etc) so we can use the right approach to understanding where we can improve
  • Working together with the Product Manager and the team on our product roadmap
  • Being an active member of our CoP including running sessions and hosting our CoP book club

We also swarm on issues with the wider teams if required using the equivalent of an Andon cord so people are alerted to and team up on fixes together. At every point, you’ll have the support of your team and the business to do the right thing with autonomy, mastery, and purpose.

Above everything else, you’ll have the opportunity to influence our decisions, help define standards across the teams and contribute to a healthy and happy working environment.

About You

Within your current role you’ll have demonstrated excellent servant-leadership, helping to guide teams to successful delivery while working to enable and support in any way the team requires.

You have a passion for quickly getting software in front of users that solves real problems. To ensure this you’ll be excellent at motivating the team to create and focus on small, well understood pieces of work.

Within the team you constantly look for ways to improve team health and happiness, supporting personal skills growth and collaboration both within the team and across the business. Where the team needs additional support, you will be proactive in recognising and resolving with coaching, skills transfer, training or hiring.

You will be proactive at engaging stakeholders and will be comfortable having conversations about scope and delivery timescales with senior members of the organisation. You will take responsibility for setting and attaining goals for the team. Where necessary you will be comfortable organising and facilitating workshops to share knowledge and resolve issues.

As an expert in agile delivery, you will bring a clear understanding of various delivery methodologies and a pragmatic approach that enables you to see beyond the ceremonies to tailor the way the team is working to maximise their impact. Most importantly you embrace transparency and open communication while ensuring a collaborative, no-blame culture within the team.

With the uncertainties facing the retail sector now, you’ll need to be willing and able to pivot and adapt to changing priorities as new opportunities are identified, keeping the team engaged throughout.

Salary and Benefits

We’re offering a salary of up to £60,000 for the right person, which we assess based on your own experiences, delivery skills and against the principles of our department and our ways of working. You’ll also get access to our ‘FA Presents’ company benefits platform, 25 days holiday and pension as standard, and use of our training budget to help you develop your skills.

Diversity

We recognise and value the importance of diversity to help make sure we have lots of different perspectives when we are building products and services. We know that this will help us build useful and accessible things which our customers will love. This is great news for our business. Diversity for us is also, importantly, about building happy teams full of people that want to learn and want to be inspired by each other and our different experiences and backgrounds.

Recruitment Process

We review applications on an individual basis, and if we feel you would be a good fit we’ll invite you to meet with a few members of the Footasylum team for an informal chat about the role over Zoom, and to see if we’re a good fit for you.

With the COVID-19 situation our teams are all working remotely, adjusting to this new way of working as best we can - and as such we’ll help make the interview process as clear and stress-free as possible, giving you the same opportunity as if we were meeting face to face.
