Following the promotion of our caretaker to aposition in a larger school, we are looking for someone to join us part-time.Perhaps you are recently retired but wish to ‘keep your hand in’, or maybe yourun your own business and would like a steady second income? Our back-officeteam are a much-appreciated key part of our federation and work tirelessly tokeep everything running smoothly and both schools clean, tidy and welcoming.Staff across the federation are dedicated to public service and go above andbeyond to make sure our pupils have the best possible educational experience.Everyone has their role to play in making our schools successful, not just theteachers and school leaders and every contribution is valued.

We can offer full training, a friendly workingenvironment and flexible hours. Ideally you will be a member of our localcommunity as there will be occasional split shifts and we are trying to reduceour impact on the environment by employing locally where we can. However, ifyou live further away but are willing to travel and believe you have the rightskills for the role, please do apply.

Both schools have had refurbishment/improvementworks recently, so the main focus of the role is maintenance and minor repairsin the first instance.

You will :-

  • Understand the importance of health and safety ina school environment and be willing to attend training on statutory complianceand any other relevant courses.
  • Carry out weekly checks across the site (fire,water, lighting, buildings, equipment etc) and record these in our buildingsmanagement folders.
  • Undertake routine maintenance tasks andimprovements to the buildings.
  • Work closely with the school business manager andexecutive headteacher to arrange external contractors where needed.
  • Cover opening and locking up in the event ofabsence within the cleaning/caretaking team.
  • Be on call for ‘out of hours’ alarm call outs. Wepay a minimum of 2 hrs per call out where site is attended (taken as time offin lieu or overtime).
  • Liaise day to day with the school secretaries andheads of school regarding ‘the jobs book’. This is the place where all minorrepairs / improvements are listed for you to prioritise.

Lower Halstow School and Newington CEP School aresingle form entry village Primary Schools for children aged 4-11. Both haveclose links with their village church and community and spacious school groundswith games pitches. Both Schools offer a safe secure learning environment andare well equipped with a variety of resources.

Lower Halstow School moved into its presentbuilding in October 2005 and offers many modern facilities such as a SportsHall,ICT suite & Dining Hall. Newington was extended in 2000 with 4 newClassrooms and Library and the original building has recently been renovated.

We have supportive Governors and parents and ourpupils are happy, polite, enthusiastic and are proud of their school.We areconstantly striving to improve the opportunities for all and are always lookingfor new ways to make learning engaging and effective. The schools work closely together with subjectleaders and teachers planning together and supporting each other as needed.There is no 'rule' and we allow each year group team to establish the mosteffective way of working. This helps with workload and we have a minimalmarking policy which also supports this. Work life balance is important to usand we are open to creative ways of working in order to achieve this.
