Job description

Job Description:

At Micro Focus we develop software and build careers .

Micro Focus is one of the world’s largest enterprise software providers, delivering the mission-critical software that keeps the digital world running. We combine pragmatism, discipline, and customer-centric innovation to deliver trusted, proven solutions that customers need in order to succeed in today’s rapidly evolving marketplace. That’s high tech without the drama.

Talented editors, authors, and software developers are at the heart of Micro Focus. Our 3-year graduate scheme places editors alongside developers in an agile environment delivering innovative software solutions. We enjoy a great team spirit working in a relaxed, goal-orientated atmosphere, on a wide range of technologies and platforms. Based in Newbury, we collaborate with our Design Centres around the world to deliver high quality products to our extensive customer base. We recognise the importance of passion and talent, and offer a package designed to attract and retain the best.

To join our team, successful candidates will need to have a degree in a language- or software-related discipline. Upon joining Micro Focus, you will immediately be placed with two of our development teams and be expected to contribute from day one. Soft skills and non-technical training will be provided outside the Documentation team and a mentor will support your progress as your career develops.

The Documentation team creates documentation that is an integral part of the software products created by the development teams at Micro Focus. The users of these products are typically computer programmers and analysts who are developing and maintaining complex business applications for PC, UNIX and mainframe environments, and migrating existing applications from mainframe to UNIX and PC platforms.

The teams you will be working with author their documentation primarily in FrameMaker. You might also have the opportunity to work with teams who use DITA XML and a CMS.

You will be involved in taking developer-generated content, adding it to existing FrameMaker or DITA XML sources, applying house styles and standards, and publishing documentation sets to meet tight deadlines.

You will be technically inclined, preferably with some programming knowledge. You will be editing concept, reference and task help, as well as online books. Close interaction with development and authoring teams, often remotely, is essential.

Requirements

  • Native English speaker.
  • A working knowledge of FrameMaker.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Technically minded with some programming exposure.
  • Highly personable team player who is able to work effectively with colleagues.
  • Self-motivated, dedicated and enthusiastic.
  • An awareness of DITA XML or HTML would be useful.
  • #LI-NY1
