Trainee Solar PV Field Engineer in Swindon

4 - 40 hours per week

Job description

Requirements: Driving licence and transport
This role is predominantly home based and you will be expected to already have basic office equipment such as a PC/Laptop, internet access and a mobile phone. You will be required to regularly visit and have easy access to our head office in Swindon.
Although you may be asked to travel further in support of operations in other areas, most of your customers will be residential and located within an hour or so’s drive of Swindon, this includes towns such as Reading, Southampton, Bristol and Oxford.
The Person
Above and before anything else, what we are looking for is a strong work ethic and a desire to learn and make progress. Someone with good people skills, who takes responsibility for themselves and takes pride in their work.
Skills, support and training, we will provide you with; a ‘can do’ attitude and a professional manner, you will already have.
This role could be filled by anyone of any age or gender but you will need to be comfortable working at heights and be physically fit. Working on roofs will be a regular requirement, as will lifting and working with heavy, sometimes awkward, electrical equipment such as inverters, solar panels and batteries.
You will be organised, accurate, always well presented, reliable and on time.
Knowledge Background
We won’t expect you to know the in’s and out’s of solar power, electrical systems or roofing but experience in any of these areas will be relevant and an immediate advantage.
Ideally, you will already have a basic understanding of electrical systems, in particular how to isolate, test and work on them safely. You will understand concepts such as voltage, amps and watts and the principles of how DC and AC electrical systems work.
However, If you’re the type of person likely to pull something apart and then put it back together again just to find out how it works, or if you are the one that friends and family come to for help or advice for any building work or anything technical, than with or without direct experience, you are already likely to be the kind of person that we are looking for.
The Role
Day to day you will be responsible for diagnosing faults and carrying out repairs on residential solar PV systems. A varied and interesting role that will require you to think on your feet, involving both AC and DC electrical equipment as well as IT/networking and roofing.
To start with you will be working and learning alongside one of our engineers but before too long this role will be unaccompanied and involve attending pre-booked appointments where you will be responsible for diagnosing faults, accurately recording and communicating these to us and the client and then taking the lead in specifying and then arranging for the repairs to be carried out.
The Company
In Balance Energy is a comparatively small company but we were amongst the first and are very well known in the industry; we have always punched above our weight both in terms of the projects that we’ve delivered and the clients that we have on our books.
Our reputation for innovation and quality has been hard earned and is one of the reasons why we continue to thrive and grow, whilst so many competitors have tried and failed. One of our other secrets is that we keep the needs of our customers at the heart of our business, we never rip anyone off, we operate honestly and transparently.
The Future
In a sustainable and managed way we are growing. In the last 18 months we have extended our coverage into the South West and up to York in the North, we also have Field Engineers working out of Derby and East London.
We have been welcomed by the clients in these new areas with open arms, there is a real need and an appreciation for a company such as ours, others just don’t do it the way we do, and we’ve only just started to scratch the surface. We are capable of and have geared ourselves up to do much more.
For you personally, once you’ve mastered this role you will know what this business is all about, you will have developed an enviable skill set and will have the technical and commercial experience as well as the opportunity, to progress your career in whichever direction you choose
