About the role
Here at Babcock International we're looking for an Appointed Person (Lifting Operations) to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. We're a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.

As the Appointed Person you'll act as the subject matter expert (SME) for all lifting operations, leading a multidisciplinary team supporting all lifting activities on the nuclear licenced site.

You'll use your experience within engineering, lifting and transportation operations to plan, control and execute basic, intermediate and complex lifting operations using a mixture of fixed and mobile plant, liaising with internal and external stakeholders and sub-contractors, where necessary.

You'll interface with the engineering department, nuclear safety personnel and project management teams to identify project requirements for lifting, developing and supplying solutions to challenging project situations, ensuring strong customer service and prioritising safety at all times.

You'll lead on Health and Safety throughout the lifting team; this will include weekly walk rounds and monthly team briefs; the production of Risk Assessments and Method Statements; supporting incident investigation through the completion of AIRSWEB events and reviewing and challenging safety case demands in the pursuit of improved safety and regulatory compliance.

You'll also be proactive in support of Continuous Improvement initiatives - both within Lifting Services and the Facilities Department, supporting transformational change objectives both internally within facilities and across the business.

What do I need to do the role?
You'll have completed an Appointed Person Training Course (CPCS or NPORS) and hold one of the following:-

CPCS Appointed Person (A61) Blue Card
NVQ Level 5 (although a Red card CPCS would be considered)
NPORS Appointed Person (N401)You'll also have experience within engineering, lifting and transportation operations to include:

Understanding of engineering requirements, calculations and technical drawings to support production activities.
Experience of providing SME support to Projects, from Bid Management through to closure.
Experience in effective management and development multi-disciplinary teams
Ability to influence and build a sense of team spirit & motivation;
Ability to identify and take appropriate decisions which impact broadly on the project and businessLastly, you'll need to be a strong communicator able to interact effectively and manage key internal & external stakholders and sub-contractors across all projects, encouraging and builiding strong, co-operative relationships in order to deliver shared objectives.

What else do I need to know?
The successful candidate will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) clearance.
