Summary

Are you excited by discovering the secrets that lie within our historic buildings and places? Do you care about heritage and the future of our historic places? This 1 year, fixed term maternity cover appointment will support you in further developing a career in architectural investigation and applied built environment research.

You will be joining the regions Partnerships Team who work with partners to enhance the historic environment and increase knowledge and appreciation of our heritage.

This role is part time 25 hrs a week.

What you`ll be doing?

In this hands-on role, you will visit and investigate buildings and places in Heritage Action Zones and buildings that are on the Heritage at Risk register, uncovering evidence and establishing facts. In this way you will be able to influence the appreciation, protection and revitalisation of the built heritage.

Working with Historic England architectural investigators and other specialists, you will shape the stories of the sites you visit through a combination of fabric analysis, measured survey and documentary research. You will seek to communicate your findings in new and exciting ways, through reports and talks.

Who we are looking for:

Alongside a deep interest in, and knowledge of, British buildings, you will have a degree in Architectural History, Art History, History, Archaeology, or a related discipline. You may also have experience of working in the heritage sector in a similar investigation role. You will enjoy the detailed analysis of visually interrogating a building or place and have the ability to adapt your written and oral communications to suit your audience.

You will work within a supportive team environment, enabling you to further develop a career that rewards your passion for our built heritage. You will have an aptitude for project management and planning, and ability to meet deadlines.
