Within the UK the company has fully equipped ISO & GLP compliant laboratory facilities on the outskirts of Southampton, in the beautiful setting of Southampton Science Park, and we are looking for an individual with the right calibre to join our friendly team.
About the Junior Laboratory Technician role:
You will be working within the Process Safety Laboratories undertaking laboratory audits, sample preparation & supporting Technicians, Analysts and Chemists in a wide variety of testing for different materials.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for the following GLP specific tasks:
- Knowledge of test SOP’s.
- Maintain own training record.
- Booking in of chemical samples from suppliers (e.g.Aldrich) and maintenance of corresponding Access database.
- Booking out of chemicals from the laboratories and organising sample disposal.
- Backing-up and archiving of raw experimental study data.
General Responsibilities:
- Ensuring the laboratories, at any given time, are maintained in a clean and safe condition.
- Performing a lab audit at the end of every working day to ensure cleanliness, tidiness and safety of the CPE laboratory.
- Performing daily and weekly balance, temperature and barometric pressure checks.
- Ordering consumable items and chemicals for use in study experiments.
- Assisting other staff with conduct of testing in the CPE Laboratory or RT Laboratory (as specified in the individual training records).
- Ensure that you and your team are aware of your responsibilities to uphold and enforce good health and safety practice
- Supporting the team with general laboratory duties, including cleaning.
Knowledge, Experience & Qualification:
- Minimum GCSE Level qualifications in Science & Maths (Grade C/4 or above)
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills
- Understanding of laboratory methodologies and practices, quantities and reactions of mixing chemicals and hazardous materials.
- Able to perform mathematical and scientific calculations
- Ability to identify work priorities and efficiently manage own workload
- Understanding of COSHH Health and Safety legislation, policies and procedures
- Experience of dealing with laboratory equipment, e.g. Electrical equipment, fume cupboards, pressure vessels, etc.
You must also be able to demonstrate the following attributes:

- To speak positively and enthusiastically about the company and its products
- To work as part of a team to achieve the departmental standards.
- To work together with other departments within DEKRA to identify any process improvements and improve standards, efficiency and profitability.
The successful applicant will be expected to have a keen interest in science supported by at least GCSE Level qualifications in Science & Maths.
An enthusiastic, flexible and ambitious candidate is sought who has strong self-motivational, team working and communication skills.
Previous laboratory and COSHH Health and Safety Legislation experience is preferred but not essential as full training will be provided.
