Arden Tissue Bank Biomedical Assistant.

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, flexible individual to contribute to on-going Covid 19 research in a joint post shared between Coventry & Warwickshire Pathology Services and Arden Tissue Bank.

The role will allow the successful applicant to gain experience of a busy HTA licenced Biobank and witness the role clinical diagnostic laboratories play in research. Applications are open to candidates with appropriate laboratory experience and an interest in research.

The primary duties of the biomedical assistant will be to assist with collection, collation and distribution of Covid 19 samples as part of the NIHR funded Covid Digital Collaborative Project. This is a co-operative venture between four Midlands based NHS Trusts to collect a research rich cohort of Covid 19 positive samples, with detailed anonymised data drawn from patient records across each of the four Trusts.

The candidate will also be expected to assist with the smooth running of a high profile, busy biobank, and help ensure Trust wide compliance with the Human Tissue Act 2006.

The role will involve:

  • Identification of relevant patients samples surplus to diagnostic need.
  • Receiving & processing samples from other sites.
  • Logging data from samples onto Tissue Bank systems.
  • Anonymisation of samples.
  • Co-ordinating and supplying project related materials to applicants to the biobank- both commercial and academic.

The post-holder will be employed by the University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust.
